A Message From Eric

Recommended Posts

I spoke at length with Eric on the phone regarding all of the questions concerning the tour. Be assured that Eric realizes that a number of you are already holding tickets to the shows (me included!), and is treating this matter very seriously. He only wants the very best for his fans and does not want anyone to be disappointed with any aspect of the tour, especially if he is involved.

As desperately as I want to see Eric in concert, I do not want him to compromise his integrity.

If there is a problem, I hope it can be worked out to everyone's satisfaction, but, I trust Eric's judgement and know he will do what is best for all concerned. Eric's drive to make his music the best it can be is what makes him stand out above all the rest. --Julie

For what it's worth, here's a message from Todd Rundgren regarding the Tour at his site. Very interesting how he refers to Eric as "Eric Cartmen"!!

"Todd's latest update: There's been a bit of confusion about where I'm going to be this summer, which I will only attempt to clear up since it confuses me as well. It should be obvious that I'm doing 2 different tours (not counting the odd dates in Texas). Concert promoters don't appreciate the same 'headliner' (ha ha) coming to the same market within the same year- they think that fans will only buy one ticket a season for any one act. Arguable as that assumption may be, the itineraries have been worked out to exclude me from any Abbey Road (Dung Beatle) shows that conflict with shows already booked by Hall & Oates, wherein I will be replaced by Eric Cartman... I mean Carmen. Actually, the Dung Beatles continue touring after I go off with H&O during the month of August. To confuse things further, I have been inadvertantly included on the advertised bill in cities where I shouldn't appear and excluded from some that I should. What appears now on the Calendar channel (and below) is as close as I can figure it at this moment. Heads up for changes in mid-July."

I agree with Julie. Of course I want to see Eric and already bought a ticket, too, but as long as it's his decision, I will accept it. Because I believe he thinks about his fans first and he has a hard time more than we do now. Anyway, let's wait. We will see what happens.

Whatever creative differences have happened, as Eric said, it seems to be problem with the promoters confusing the issue (as per usual?!) as well. It's pretty sad when it appears that Todd doesn't seem to know exactly where he's performing either. The promoters' love of the almighty dollar rears its ugly head once again! I find Rundgren's attitude very "interesting" too--one thing's for sure: Eric is dealing with a situation that must be making him angry with the absolute CLASS we love him for. THAT really says something! Eric, whatever your decision, when you do appear live, we'll BE there! --Darlene

This doesn't smell good, it's only a hunch, but to me it's appearing like at best, Eric will be playing only when Todd isn't, which wipes out a lot of shows, and the one I was going to.

Hopefully it will sort itself out, and Eric's message indicates his appreciation of his fans.

Eric, there is only one way to avoid this. Do a solo tour and take complete control. I'd rather hear 20 of YOUR songs anyway.

Earlier today I was celebrating the fact that I won't be traveling to California in late July. I was about to order tickets to every east coast show possible. But not if Eric's not going to be on the bill!!! Stick to your guns, Eric. I'll wait for your solo show, along with the rest of your fans. Dave

Thanks Bernie! I for one really appreciate being able to come here and get reliable information. I agree with what everyone has said -- if Eric doesn't feel things are up to his standards, even though it would be disappointing not to see him, I'd rather he opt out than settle.

Guys-- Don't read ANYTHING into that message from Todd Rundgren's web site, because there really isn't anything to find...my guess is that it's simply an example of Todd's wacky humor.

Eric told me that he and Todd got along GREAT! In fact, they had a blast in Hawaii at rehearsals as well as during the show. I believe Todd's message was written a couple of weeks before the guys even arrived in Hawaii. --Bernie

Bernie, Thanks for clearing up the Rundgren site info confusion. I wasn't sure if he was kidding or not. It's encouraging to hear that Todd's message was written before the guys arrived in Hawaii. And I'll bet they did have a blast. So, until Eric does give us "the inside story," we can all relax.

And he WILL appear somewhere, sometime, even if this tour doesn't work out. I'll save my black miniskirt...(and the new shoes I bought to go with them, right girls? etc. etc...) --Darlene

Thanks, Bernie, as always, for providing the most up to date and reliable info... Whatever the trouble is for Eric, it's clearly not a conflict with Todd Rundgren. In one of the stories you posted from Hawaii in the Press section, Todd has some nice things to say about Eric, mentioning that he was always a Raspberries fan. They are contemporaries, veterans of the same power-pop generation...the Nazz and the Razz.

I'm trying to accept the reality that Eric may not be performing at the Keswick on 7/24. Without him, the show would lose its heart and soul as far as I'm concerned. To hear "GATW" live played by that band...well, I was really looking forward to it. But the music business is a reality as well, and Eric's certainly seen all sides of it, and I know he's a person of immense integrity who only wants to put out the best music and performances under the best conditions and without compromise. The downfall of the Raspberries reunion tour, while disappointing, was proof of this. He would not participate in a second-rate show.

I join all of you in hopes that these problems can be resolved and we can see Eric participating and if not, I agree with other respondents in favor of a solo tour...where he can ensure that every facet meets his standards.

Fingers crossed,

Howard

I've got the same sick feeling that I had when an announcement was made at the Toledo, OH Masonic Auditorium that Eric would not be performing that night with the Dirty Dancing concert. This doesn't look good, folks. Even Todd Rundgren's site is confused. There are dates when he's not sure if he's playing or not. Check it out! Betsey P.S. Who are the promoters of this thing?

I totally agree with all members that we would love to see Eric this summer, but not if it means Eric is not happy. As my parents have always told me, "do what you think is best for you...that is the only way to be truly happy" We trust Eric and will support whatever needs to be done. I agree with many members that we would LOVE a solo tour...if that means waiting a year or two, then so be it.

Thanks Bernie for ALL that you do. Thanks Eric for thinking of us.

I'm sorry but I purchased my tickets based on the fact that Eric was going to be part of the show that I will have to travel over 60 miles to. I can't get my money back if he decides to pull out. Eric talks about caring about his fans, well then he should keep his committment, if not to the show, but to those of us who committed to buying tickets to see HIM. These days every dollar counts and it would really be lousy if Eric doesn't keep his committment.

...and as far as a solo tour, I also bought tickets to Eric's last solo tour some 20 years ago. The show was at Carnegie Hall in New York I believe. But the show was cancelled. And I do recall an announcement of a Raspberries reunion tour a few years ago. Surprise! It was canceled as well. Talk about Deja vu.

The first solo tour. The Raspberries tour. A Walk Down Abbey Road. Is there a pattern here? A common thread? I love Eric but this is getting very tiring.

Bernie, Yea I saw Eric's explanation and it sounded like the Dirty Dancing Tour was a nightmare. I don't want anyone to think that I blamed Eric. No Way! I have a feeling that this Abbey Road Tour is turning into another nightmare for Eric. Isn't it weird that no-talents like Marilyn Manson can be seen and heard all over the country and a true musical genius like Eric Carmen has such a terrible time with tours? I'd pay $50.00 to go the backyard concert in Altoona! Wouldn't you? Betsey

Bernie, do you actually have all those tickets *in hand*, or simply ordered thru ticketmaster? I found out today I will not have my tickets from ticketmaster till probably 48 hours before the show, so I won't even be able to put them on ebay at a great loss, the show will be over before I could possibly sell them and mail them to someone... I'll just take a $113.00 loss... *sigh*

I agree completely with tgp's posts. Eric's message in itself makes little sense. He's questioning whether to perform as he thinks the conditions will disapoint fans??? Fans will be more disapointed if he doesn't perform. Particularly those of us who have already bought tickets. I certainly can't think of any legitimate reason for him to pull out, short of not getting paid. He may not be happy about something, but oh well, he should have worked that out before committing to it. I bought tickets to two shows, the closest of the two is still 400 miles away. If he backs out, I guess I've learned a very valuable lesson. NEVER buy advance tickets to anything associated with Eric Carmen!
