mymooladi
Williams, I suggest you start reading some of the post to catch up. However, I don't believe Eric is recording right now. JUNE
darlene
Williams, You'll soon see that "what's new with Eric" is a tough subject. We ALL want to know what's new with Eric! And we're waiting patiently for some great music. --Darlene
JoAnne Marie
AW, COME ON TONY! NOT ALL OF US ARE ON THE BALL. I AM CERTAINLY NOT. NOT ALL OF US ARE, RE: "WILLIAMS" REPLY. I'D LIKE TO KNOW WHAT'S NEW, DIFFERENT AND/OR EXCITING WITH ERIC, TOO.
Roonie
Come on Eric fans give him a break. After having lunch with him a few months back we could tell he is enjoying family and surburban life for a change. He contributions to the music world are timeless so relax and let Eric enjoy the finer things in life for awhile. Eric will decide when it is time to record/tour again. Your posts are selfish in nature so quit your whining! Roonie
mymooladi
I agree with you Roonie, Give him a break. I'ts not like he needs to put out another album, so it can get critized to pieces, and raked over the coals. Nope I'm thinking it might be more fun to play with his kids and cash the checks. marvin
Good for Eric if he's having fun with his children and his family. In the long run, it is much more rewarding. Unfortunately for those who yearn for new music, don't hold your breath. When the "checks are coming" in as regularly as they have been for Eric, where's the rush to record? If and when he feels the need to record again, it will most certainly be for creative reasons and not for financial reasons. Marvin
darlene
Oh how I hate this speculation stuff, especially when people start talking about Eric's money and checks, etc. etc. Yuk, we're all so much nicer than that. WE would blanch if someone were speculating about OUR money. Yeah, we all know Eric did very well from Celine Dion's recording of ABM, but speculating about his finances or his personal/family life is more than rude, it's crass and nasty. It makes me laugh, because this kind of speculation is so pie-in-th-sky and imaginative that it probably bears NO resemblance to any truth that is really going on, and so it's pointless.I would bet that he is contact with contacts in the music business and is working on many things all the time.Just because he isn't currently recording (and we don't even KNOW that he isn't!) doesn't mean he's left music behind in the dust. When music has been your first love all of your life, it doesn't just doesn't let you go. You can let it go for awhile, but it's like what a drug must be--it gets in your blood and you have to do it. So I will never believe he's just let it go. I don't think that's in his makeup. Just because we're frustrated for new music doesn't mean we can't be respectful. --Darlene

Tony Cartmill
LET'S SEE...1 ALBUM, A COUPLE OF SINGLES, AND A 6 MONTH GIG WITH RINGO IN 18 YEARS. GEE THAT DOESN'T LEAVE TIME FOR MUCH ELSE. HE NEEDS MORE TIME WITH HIS FAMILY? GEEEEEZ! WHEN SONGWRITING AND STUDIO RECORDING IS YOUR ONLY JOB, IT GIVES YOU MUCHO FLEXIBILITY TO SPEND TIME WITH THE KIDS WHEN YOU WANT TO. IT'S NOT LIKE WE ARE ASKING ERIC TO WORK IN A SLAUGHTERHOUSE OR SELL INSURANCE 10 HOURS A DAY. JUST DO A LITTLE MORE WHAT YOU HAVE DONE SEMI-NATURALLY FOR YOUR WHOLE ADULT LIFE. WRITE AND RECORD DUDE! AND POLISH UP SOME OF YOUR OLD UNRELEASED AND UNFINISHED STUFF. FROM WHAT WE'VE HEARD, THERE IS ENOUGH QUALITY STUFF THERE FOR A SOLID NEW CD.DON'T SIT AROUND AND GROW OLD IN YOUR BIG MANSION. PHIL SPECTOR AND BRIAN WILSON TRIED THAT. IT DIDN'T WORK FOR THEM. I THINK BRIAN IS HAPPIER NOW BECAUSE HE IS OUT THERE DOING SOMETHING AGAIN. I KNOW THE NEW TV SEASON AND ALL THOSE WONDERFUL REALITY SHOWS ARE TEMPTING, BUT YOU MUST RESIST AND GET BACK TO DOING WHAT YOU WERE PUT ON THIS EARTH TO DO...MUSIC! LostControl
Tony, Sincc when did you suddenly become posessed by DoAnne and start typing in caps? Yikes. All that yelling! I need ear plugs with you guys typing!I agree with Tony. I have a toddler, and yet I find time to do other stuff too - I've written a book and taught several College level courses since my son was born. I write at night when my son is sleeping, and some of my teaching has been done in the evening, when my husband is home, so we don't have to put our son in daycare. It doesn't always work out - there was 1 week my husband was away on business and I had to teach my course, so my son ended up at the babysitter for a few hours, but it didn't kill him.I don't work for the money - I work to keep myself up to date in my industry, and to get mental stimulation. The point I'm trying to make here is, if Eric wanted to work and write music, he would be doing it. He would be doing it at night, when the kids are asleep, when they are at playschool, at the park, over at a friend's birthday party, etc. If he's not working, it's because he doesn't want to, plain and simple. If you want to do something badly enough, you will get it done. If you don't want to do something, you'll use any excuse not to.Perhaps he's spent so many years writing, singing, performing, etc., that he's put it all behind him, but he's not ready to admit it yet to himself or his fans. He always says he's going to tour, yet he pulls out at the last minute. It's an obvious sign he really doesn't want to dedicate the time and energy to touring. I'm not saying he doesn't appreciate his fans, or wants to let them down. He's juet likely at a point in his life right now where he says, "Been there, done that, don't really have the energy or the inclination to do it all over again." It's how I feel about having another baby - every now and then I see a newborn, and see how cute and wonderful they are, but then I think of the late nights, the nursing, the diapers, the fact that I nearly died and it took me until just now to get back to normal (well, I'm not quite there yet). I can't see going through that all over again - I just feel I'm too old for that type of abuse to my body.Maybe that's how Eric feels - it's just not worth the effort. He's been there before, and knows the tremendious amount of work it takes to write, sing, produce, tour, etc., and he's just not up to it at his age. Maybe we'll just have to accept that that's all that's coming out of Eric. (But he could still release the stuff he's already recorded - that doesn't take any effort on his part. Think of the $$$ to be made and the new additions that could be put on the house - or the new OshKosh Overalls that could be purchased).Michelle
marvin
Nice honest post Michelle, but you know that you're going to get the Eric-lovers all upset now.Marvin
Tony Cartmill
I bet if Eric would have had one or two hits off the last CD "WD", he would have been back in the studio sooner recording again. You know, like back in 1987/88 when he had those two back to back top 10...Oh well...Screw that theory...
williams
We have not heard from Bernie on this. I wonder how often he speaks to Eric.

Randy
I have to agree with Tony here. He's had plenty of time to spend with the family. This is a guy that should be able to wrote at least one song a month and 12X1=a $16 cd. Don't want to push EC, but there's a lot of people that would enjoy some new stuff once every decade or more. Is that too much to ask of a guy who only does this for a living? I'm probably ALL BY MYSELF on this one.
Tony Cartmill
Bernie is only allowed to talk to Eric for 3 minutes a month during the network break between "Fear Factor" and "Fear Factor: Special Playboy Bunny Edition". You gotta respect Eric's privacy. He's such a busy guy these days...
gordharris
I was on a web site, atour web site with Ringo Starr and Eric Carmen, from what I was reading Eric Is the opening for Ringo Starr.Ringo is on tour.

Tony Cartmill
For one brief moment...we had hope.
LostControl
I think we might be waiting until the kids are off to College and Eric needs the money to pay for tuition before he starts touring again. He's a family man who doesn't want to miss a minute of his kids lives, so he keeps pulling out of any tour he signs on to. I wouldn't get my hopes up until I'm sitting there in the audience with the sweat from Eric hitting me in the face before I'll believe he'll tour again. Remember the disappointment of last year when he was supposed to be touring then problems arose and he pulled out at the last minute, leaving everyone with a bunch of worthless tickets?Maybe we can hope that his kids will turn into obnoxious teenagers who grunt when communicating with their parents, listen to rap, and wear those baggy skater clothes. Hopefully then he'll want to get out of the house and go on tour! "Sorry honey, can't stay around for the kids' parole hearing, I've got a tour leaving for Ottawa next week. I'll be gone for three months. But I'll miss you and be thinking of you every minute that I'm gone." The way our luck is going, his kids will be the class validictorians, and he'll never want to go out on tour. Perhaps a visit from Tony will influence the kids in the ways of the world! (By the way Tony, stay away from my baby - he's going to be warped enough having me as a mommy!) gordharris
Could it be fans that Eric is re-cooperating from summer vacation with his loved ones. After all, he has to be getting ready to do something, because the kids are back in school now, right.Or, maybe he is writing songs for his next album. Tony Cartmill
Michellllllle, before you get too far into your "Sweaty Carmen" fantasy, you must remember, nobody sweats in Ottawa. Ttttttttooooo Ccccccccccold! From what I know about Canada, the people consider themselves blessed if they can make it back to the house at night from the out-house commode without becoming a human ice sculpture. At least that's what Marvin tells me...
