Thanks for the link, Sousa! I love the song! Obviously from all of my posts here, I was, and still am, sad about his death. I think it just really touched me how beautiful his voice is, his strength of family - and convictions to stay away from the "wild side", and that whole fishing/ love of nature aspect.....and humble beginnings!! That cancer stuff is just not fair!! Terri

Hi Sue and welcome!! I don't have any connections to your neck of the woods....but, I was a hockey mom for awhile! My son started in hockey as a "mini-mite" then switched over to basketball around 5th grade, only to play JV hockey for fun as a junior in high school! His girlfriend played from childhood and was a high school varsity player - we enjoyed watching her games and wish she would've continued in college! Oh well - we all enjoy the MN Wild around here! (my son and girlfriend just got to experience 2nd row seats thanks to a gift from her boss - they enjoyed all of the social media aspects of people saying "is that you at the Wild game?" as they made it on TV a few times! ) OK ... now, I'm rambling...... P F Sloan - It came across my Facebook that he died of pancreatic cancer on Nov. 15. At first I didn't know who this was- until I read the words "Eve of Destruction". Mr. Sloan wrote this song, was influential in the sound of the Byrds, and formed the Grass Roots band. He wrote "Where Were You When I Needed You" for the Grass Roots and also " Secret Agent Man" for Johnny Rivers. (wrote for others as well, - the Searchers, the Turtles, etc.) When he bought his first guitar as a child, he got his first lesson from Elvis Presley, who happened to be in the store.! He recorded his first single at age 14 and was a staff songwriter at age 16. He influenced Bob Dylan and earned the respect of Jimmy Webb. RIP.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LC!!! Terri

Funny topic - I see someone already posted CCR's "Bad moon on the rise" as "bathroom on the right" - I always sang it as "there is a baboon on the right" (I was so confused by that song!) Also, " Barbara Ann" - went to a dance, looking for romance I sang it as went to a dance, looking for a MANce - that didn't work so well, either.... Lastly, "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" - I don't want to spoil the party, so I'll go. I would hate my disappointment to show... I sang it as "I don't want to spoil the party, so I'll go. I would hate my "little pointer" to show...." HUH??

I had to confirm with my son, but "All By Myself" is also played at my hometown's college hockey games (couldn't remember if it was there or MN Wild games) - we always got a good chuckle out of it. I believe they also played bits of "Don't Fear the Reaper" at other moments!

I've been listening to Three Dog Night tunes and learned that "An Old Fashioned Love Song" was written by Paul Williams - originally for the Carpenters, but was rejected by Richard Carpenter. Worked out well for Three Dog Night! Cool story! Terri

Sometimes I think I am looking at this computer way too much, but I really do enjoy finding " old gems " on youtube, as well as various information about music. I even happened upon Cory Wells facebook page.....his family is going to turn his site into a "forum" for people to share stories, etc. Very neat idea. His own posts though are what really struck me - not that their were a lot, but what was there was so normal, so grandfatherly! He had some great videos of his grandson showing his own musical talent, of which, Grandpa Cory was obviously proud. Also indirectly found out that Danny Hutton has a son who is a drummer for the band HAIM which is a current girl group (for the most part!) who has opened for Taylor Swift, as well as had songs on current movie soundtracks (Hunger Games, PaperTowns, etc.). Love that musical heredity - wish I had some! Matt had some connections to some youtube vids where Three Dog Night were on some TV specials...I looked at those, and of course, looked at more....even though I was going to end my posts with "Out In The Country" (I totally agree with your post Anne!), I'm adding one more "Eli's Coming" which I've been enjoying listening to as well! This video is funny and showcases the times, clothing, a seance, Lily Tomlin, etc.! Hope you enjoy, too. (If you do....there is another Eli's Coming from 2008 including orchestra which is almost like "church" if you get my drift! Cory has some moves at the end, sounds great, and also some short commentary. Oh heck, I will post that, too!
