  1. But you my dear are beautiful inside and out!
  2. Won't work...my fan operates very fast because the computer overheats and shuts down. I'll get on my son's when I can but I appreciate the tip.
  3. Wendy: That video was so cool! You gals certainly know how to have a rip roaring good time! Please wish Tammi a happy birthday for me (even though she has no clue who I am). What a wonderful friend you are to make the day so special for her. With friends like you, a person doesn't need anyone else in their life to make them feel special! God Bless You!
  4. Between work, fireworks and preparing for my son's grad party, I doubt I will have a moment to hop on the board so I want to take this moment to wish all my family here on ec.com a... Everyone have a safe and happy holiday! I love you and miss you, Carol
  5. Miriam: My deepest sympathy to you and your family.
  6. Having major issues with my computer so right now I am on my son's. Doubt I will be getting mine fixed (my son said it would probably cost around $200) and with what I just shelled out for my car and the expense of my third child headed to college (all three will be in), that will be hard enough to keep up with. I will not be on much at all anymore unless I can sneak on his once in a while. Everyone here is great and I will miss talking with you. See you when I can. Love, Carol
  7. Happy Birthday to our own little slice of Heaven! God Bless you on this day!
  8. I am in the medical profession, I know what that procedure is. Hope you are recovering nicely
  9. Chris, been out of the loop a bit lately...I hope you are feeling like your young self soon!
  10. Earthquake shakes Japan awake - 6.7 THU, 23 JUN 2011 10:06A.M. A magnitude-6.7 earthquake rattled northeast Japan early this morning in the same area where a massive quake triggered a deadly tsunami in March. There have been no immediate reports of injuries or damage. The Japan Meteorological Agency issued a tsunami warning for the region after the quake, but cancelled it about an hour later. The temblor struck the region of the Pacific where a magnitude-9.0 quake hit on March 11, triggering a huge tsunami. At least 23,000 people were killed or left missing in those disasters, which destroyed hundreds of homes, offices and factories in northeastern Japan. Today's quake hit about 47km off the shore of Iwate prefecture at 6:51am (local time), the Japan Meteorological Agency said. Much of the coast in the area is still heavily damaged from March's disasters. The US Pacific Tsunami warning centre said it did not expect a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami. The quake, 32km deep, caused tremors across the northern half of the country, including Tokyo, which is about 524km to the southwest. It was followed by several smaller aftershocks, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency. Japan is located on the Ring of Fire, an arc of volcanoes and fault lines spanning the Pacific Basin, and is regularly hit by earthquakes.
  11. I'm not saying Pittsburgh is a bad place to live, I'm just saying it's a stretch to say it is the most livable city for 3 years straight. For one thing, you go downtown Pittsburgh and many of the stores are closed. Second, our transit system that used to be one of the best has gotten ridiculously outrageously priced and they have cut service back so much that my daughter has to take two subway cars to work (and she only works a 15 minute drive from our home). One other note, we are second only to Dade County FL for senior population. I love the old folks, but you can't escape them. My sister comes up from Georgia and she always says that all you see when you come to Pittsburgh now is a "sea of walkers". It can drive you nuts!
  12. I hope that this birthday is as special as you are. Wishing you many years of happiness! You deserve it, Chris!
  13. Yeah for us....but honestly as a resident of this city, I don't get it!
  14. He looks absolutely precious, Wendy and he is looking down on you today with a smile. I'll even bet at some point you will feel his embrace! Special song to Dad from little children:
  15. Can't believe no one has watched this. This guy is amazing!
  16. Thanks, Wendy-Ann. I cry thinking about what an amazing and selfless father my dad was/is. He worked so hard even when he was ill with fever he went out for 38 hour road call duty in the winter. He was in charge of plowing the roads around a large apartment complex. They were to wait until the cops called them out, but my dad being the man he is would look out the window when bad weather was on the horizon and could not stand the thought of the single mothers who had to get children to daycare and themselves to work so he would go out on his own and have the roads taken care of before the call ever came out. He was pulling his truck back into the garage when everyone else was just showing up to go out. Of course, since he did not wait for the call he was not compensated for his efforts even though he had a family of ten to feed. (Every dog gets their day)! I try hard to be the same kind of mother for my children as my father was to us. His picture not only paints a 1,000 words, his good deeds could fill a novel! Life Lessons You may have thought I didn't see, Or that I hadn't heard, Life lessons that you taught to me, But I got every word. Perhaps you thought I missed it all, And that we'd grow apart, But Dad, I picked up everything, It's written on my heart. Without you, Dad, I wouldn't be The (woman)(man) I am today; You built a strong foundation No one can take away. I've grown up with your values, And I'm very glad I did; So here's to you, dear father, From your forever grateful kid. By Joanna Fuchs
  17. Happy Father's Day to my dad, my hero. This is a man who supported 8 children on very little money. We did not have much, but always had his love. He sacrificed so much just to provide us a few simple pleasures...our once a year trip to Kennywood Park and a swimming pool pass every year. Sure, other kids boasted about the trips they would take during the summer and their parents had the money, so it was a non-issue. My dad wore his shoes with the nails sticking through and he would come home with his feet bleeding to provide these few pleasures for us. How many people could say their dad was this exceptional! Now, it is an honor to serve him as he approaches 89! God Bless You, Dad...I love you!
  18. To all the super terrific dad's out there:
  19. Bush was a military man...always prompt! Clinton, always late.
  20. A friend of mine emailed this to me: Not surprising! In the President's Secret Service: Behind the Scenes with Agents in the Line of Fire and the Presidents They Protect by Ronald Kessler This book about the Secret Service reveals an awful lot about the Presidents and Vice-Presidents . . . very interesting recap thus far: JFK and LBJ = Philanderers of the highest order, both kept a lot of women in White House for affairs. Both set up "early warning" systems for it and when their wives were nearby. Total immoral men. In addition, LBJ was as crude as the day is long. Richard Nixon = Weird, moral man but very odd and weird. Paranoid etc. Horrible relationship with his family, almost a recluse. Spiro Agnew = a nice, decent man, everyone was surprised at his downfall. Jerry Ford = A true gentlemen who treated them with respect and dignity. Jimmy Carter = A complete phony who would portray one picture of himself to the public and a very different one in private; i.e., he would be shown carrying his own luggage, suit cases were always empty, he kept empty one just for photo ops. Wanted the people to see him as pious and a non drinker, he and family drank alcohol a lot. Had disdain for the Secret Service, and was very irresponsible with the "football" nuclear codes. Didn't think it was a big deal and would keep military aides at a great distance. Would never acknowledge military or Secret service they were there to serve him. Ronald Reagan = The real deal. Moral, Honest, respectful and dignified. Treated Secret Service and everyone else with respect and honor. Would always thank everyone all the time. He took the time to know everyone on a personal level. One story was early on in Presidency the President came out of his room with a side arm attached to his hip. The Agent in charge said "Why the pistol Mr. President." Ronald Reagan replied, "In case you boys can't get the job done, I can help." It was common for him to carry a pistol. People do not know that when he met with Gorbachev, he had a pistol in his briefcase. Upon learning that Gary Hart was caught with Donna Rice during the election Ronald Reagan said, "Boys will be boys, but boys will not be President" Nancy Reagan = Very nice but very protective of the President . . . the Secret Service was always caught in the middle. Nancy would try to control what the President ate all the time (healthy) and he would say to the Agents "come on you gotta help me out." The Reagans rarely drank alcohol. Secret Service said they could count on one hand the times the Reagans were served alcohol other than wine during dinner. They made the comment for all the fake bluster of the Carters it was the Reagans who lived life as genuinely moral people. George and Barbara Bush = Extremely kind and considerate. Always respectful. Took great care in making sure the agents comforts were taken care of. They would bring them meals etc. One time Barbara Bush brought warm clothes to agents standing outside a Kennebunkport. One agent who was given warm hat tried to nicely say no thanks when he was obviously freezing and President Bush said "Son, don't argue with the first lady, put the hat on." Bill Clinton = Presidency was one giant party. Not trustworthy, he was nice because he wanted everyone to like him but life is just one big game and party to him. Hillary Clinton = Another phony. Her personality would change the instant cameras were near. She hated with open disdain the military and Secret Service. Again another one who felt people are there to serve her. She was always trying to keep tabs on Bill Clinton. Al Gore = An egotistical ass who was once overheard by his Secret Service detail when he told his son he needed to do better in school or he "would end up like these guys" and pointed to the Secret Service agents. G... W. Bush = They loved him and Laura Bush. They said no one is a nicer person than Laura Bush who never has a harsh word to say about anyone. The Bush's went out of their way to take care of the Secret Service and made sure they were well cared for with meals and other comforts. GW was the most prompt of the Presidents. He ran like a well oiled machine. He was also the most in shape who had a very strict work out regimen. The Bush's made sure their entire administration understood to respect and be considerate of the Secret Service. Karl Rove was the one who was the most caring of the Secret Service in the administration. Barack Obama - Clintons all over again - hates the military and looks down on the Secret Service. Be who you are and say what you feel... because those that matter... don't mind...and those that mind...don't matter!
