  1. I've not seen either of those movies Vera...But your post made me think of a conversation I had just a few days ago with an acquaintance I met on the river this summer. He shared with me that he served a brief period during Vietnam...he made the statement to me that when he came home he was spit at and swore at...he told me he was spit at in U.S. airports three times while headed home...and these were soldiers who had no choice but to serve other than AWOL. Just felt a need to mention it in regards to "support and care" for our troops and their families...very, very sad
  2. Totally twisted...thought for sure he must be someone you know Cartmill

  9. Bravo!!! I couldn't have said it better...exactly the reason I distanced myself from the board for a brief period...But I've decided to just be me and come and go as I please and ignore those who are fast and eager to insult and offend...Now why don't we all just get drunk and...oops..I better not say it...might get my fanny smacked
  10. Hi Eric: When you performed Never Gonna Fall in Love Again on the Midnight Special in 1976 who played back up for you??? I watched it recently and it flashes to the faces of four members...I understand a back up group called "Magic" I think backed you on All By Myself??? Is it the same band??? Thanx in advance Margo

  13. This really broke my heart...I have no other words...I'm just very sad about this
  14. In China execution have become an industry for "organ harvesting"....you can be executed for even white collar type crimes...and there is no appeal...basically organs are matched with tissue types even before sentences are passed down...Big execution vans which look like motor homes roll into prison yards...The condemned is then brought to the van where all curtains are closed and everything is kept very hush hush....articles I've read pertaining to this which you can find all over the net indicate it to be a very "bloody" ordeal...importing livers and kidneys from china has become quite a lucrative business.
  15. Tony...they actually tried something like that many years ago...it's now called "Australia"
  16. Sometime in the late 1980's I stumbled upon an article in Time Magazine pertaining to a group of Attorneys and research they had done pertaining to “The Death Penalty†in the US. Their studies eluded to the idea that between 1934 and I believe it was 1976 when the US Supreme Court overturned Capital Punishment that somewhere in the area of 3000 executions had been carried out in the US....It's been a while since I concluded my own research so forgive me if my dates are a little fuzzy. Their studies also indicated that 50% to 60% of those executed had been innocent. Various factors contributed to those numbers. Over zealous prosecutors were a big blame...and under educated public defenders. The reality is most people who wind up on death row are not wealthy people who can afford what we refer to as “effective†council. Needless to say with some newly imposed procedural criteria the Feds once again granted the states who wanted to participate the authority to enact and legislate the death penalty. DNA has been a fabulous breakthrough for proving innocence. However there is little money and few organizations willing to assume every post conviction appeal. I recently learned that Texas which as most of us know has the highest execution rate in the country has no law that even guarantees post conviction defense. Therefore many are left to attempt these procedures with little if any help. There is little if any fairness to the way the death penalty is instituted. Questions arise such as “how do you execute a one time 18 year old involved with the wrong crowd†when we allow plea bargains to individuals such as Gary Ridgeway (The Green River Killer) and Kenneth Bianci ( One of the Hillside Stranglers along with his Uncle Angelo Buono who died at San Quentin not to long ago)...? Or that Dennis Rader the Kansas BTK Killer evaded the death penalty because although it took 30 years to catch and convict him there was no death penalty in Kansas during the time frame he “Bound, Tortured and Killed†10 young women in Sedgwick County between 1974 and 1991. Wisconsin had no death penalty when Jeffery Dahmer was caught and convicted so the inmates there took care of that. Even they have a code of what's acceptable and what is not. I do not oppose the death penalty but I do oppose the way it is sometimes carelessly and prejudicially imposed. In cases such at Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacey, Richard Ramirez and the above aforementioned there should be absolutely no appeals process. It's time the insanity defense in these cases also be put to rest...who wouldn't argue insanity in such cases??? But that should never be accepted as exculpatory evidence for heinousness. And you thought all I think about is pole dancing...Ha!!!
  17. Thank you Vera...I can't deny this has been a scary time for us...People from Northern and Southern California who are even more prone to this sort of activity who are here now even admit that it's "different' than what they are use too...We're use to a small quiver from time to time but this is definitely different. Until last Thursday late afternoon we hadn't really been feeling things this close to town...Just before 4:00 that day we had a 4.2 and a 4.4 almost back to back....then we had activity the rest of the evening but nothing too "earth shaking."...I was at work getting ready to close when the 4.7 hit Friday night...you could definitely feel the difference from the tremblers the previous night..I was up until almost 4:00 am unable to sleep that night. At 4:30 this morning my youngest daughter and I were awakened by a loud noises and the bed shaking..she's been sleeping with me...I got up and logged on....I am keeping the seismology report in my favoites so I can refer to it quickly and it showed we'd just been hit with a 4.2...so again...I am getting little sleep as I've now been awake since 4:30 this morning. I've packed emergency bags and I've been making my daughters sleep in sweats with their sneakers close by and I've got my Harley boots right by my side...lol...I have a full tank of gas and my 4WD ready to shake, rattle and roll if we need to move fast..and my dog...I'm not really worried about my cat...cat's are good at "doing their own thing."...But I watch him closely..if he makes himself real scarce it alerts me that something might be up. Thanx again Vera for your concern, thoughts and prayers...Hopefully this will all just sizzle out soon and I can come back to taunt you...
