  1. Was checking out a bunch of Badfinger vids, reading up on their history, & thinking back on all the power pop fans here, & decided to check in w folks here. I used to post a lot in the forum here & hope many or most of the same folks are still around. Lots of you I met at the reunion concert in Cleveland at that magnificent theatre downtown, where the Raspberries KILLED and we all had a great time partying before, during, & after the show (I also caught them in LA @ House of Blues reunion show). Hope everyone's been well & can drop in & say hey! - Austinberries
  2. Man I thought there were a buncha musicians/gearheads on these boards... Not a single guess among the ones around, eh? guess I hafta go back to discussin' politix to get a rise..
  3. ok, that is hilariously funny - tony, u should inject as much ironic accuracy into ur politix!
  4. $67,000 to whoever can name the mfgr of the bass i am playing in the picture (far left) at my signature link below.. on the far right is a guy named JJ - you've heard him play bass before on the impossibly catchy mega-hit 'Kiss Me' by Sixpence None the Richer!
  5. ec quotes: "I miss working with each and every one of them." to which the house replies: "well if u miss them so much, why don't ya (marry them? no..) put on some more 'berries shows!!" ;-) we all know it ain't as easy as it sounds, but life could be worse not having die-hard fans like the 3k or so of us who packed the downtown cleveland theatre not so long ago; hell, we'd do it again, i'd wager!
  6. wow, so who was singing lead on the beatles cover? wasnt ec, right? oops, never mind, hadnt looked at page 2 of the thread b4 i posted
  7. easily the weirdest music 'news of the weird' this year. terribly tragic too. what a great band ELO was.. may he have his cello in heaven w/ him.. thx for the music, Mike!
  8. i love it, but any version done anywhere by anyone is, let's face it, downhill from the 'berries; still, glad to see 'em pluggin' away at it & keeping the fire burning by wearing their influences proudly on their sleeves! love dude's pronunciation of 'tonight' in the video.. way to go clifford records!
  9. dante looks young still, & paul schaeffer intro'ed him as "the guy who opened the door for me to the music biz" or some such accolade cant say i ever knew what the guy looked like, tho i'm sure i saw a pic b4
  10. fresh, dont let it kill ya, just pass the peace pipe & know i never meant no harm w/ my colloquial comfort zone, which def doesnt include NJ
  11. .. was on Letterman tonight w/ PS the band
  12. i TOTALLY want that hair! luckily, there's enuff for us to split it
  13. hollies - look at us agreeing on sumthin! u should hear it, its a load of cr*p..
  14. oops, looks like 1 orig member (steve priest, bass) + a bunch of LA heavy metal guys <groan>. they tout a "new single" which is none other than... a heavy metal version of "i saw her standing there" - color me soured (get it?) & jaded!
  15. maybe i missed this before, but did y'all know The Sweet is reunited/touring? i think w/ 2 orig members. now there's some power pop for ya, w/ a side of glam. i wonder if EC & the 'berries dug 'em?
  16. hey i have a question - were the backup members present at the HOF show? can't really tell by the recording (i've only listened to half a song so far)
  17. I think u r talking about Graham Nash who I forget was in the Hollies (I think)
  18. Heard 'Jennifer Eccles' on XM today for the first time - great tune! Those guys just keep on giving to a neophyte like me..
  19. Can someone just go ahead & book 'em for another Christmas season show at that wonderful theatre there in Cleveland? from an outsider's perspective, the town was beautiful & sparkling in the snowfal the next day. I think I nailed the "from farthest awayest" fan category & we got stuck there for an extra day or two bc of the snowstorm hope they decide to do it again. The band was just insanely on that night
  20. Bernie had an interesting post on this once - think he said the instruments were dubbed but the vox were live it's a great clip, well-preserved, & u gotta love eric's comments re: the ladies from the audience who "inquire within" I think Bernie also said it was shortly before the change in the rhythm section lineup
  21. ok this was a cool photo update, w/ cool backstories.. way to dig 'em up bernie, your bench is deep, very deep
  22. Happy Holliedays to Hollies65, who i thought of & grinned for immediately when i heard this on the radio
  23. excellent, smithers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bEXxkWXncuo
  24. thx darlene - she looks fwd to debating you on the health care issue, among others! ;-) u 2 hollies! i play ukulele to her every day, btw - it's a blast. soon i will work out a 'berries tune on the uke!
  25. shelley & rockynrobin - i was in the same boat until their LA & cleveland christmas show, & let me just say that having travelled all the way from texas for the shows, if they play again, it is fully worth whatever travels & travails you must go thru to get there; so do *just that* - get there! you won't be disappointed & it will make up for all those lost years when you didn't see them back in their heyday - plus they are capped off w/ 3 backing musicians helping to fully round out their sound to maximum, drenching, power-pop effectiveness. commit yourself to it now, should it happen again ;-)
