  1. How about "Prayer of St. Francis" by Sarah McLachlan? It's from "Rarities, B-Sides and Other Stuff, Vol. 2" and it's available on iTunes.
  2. Anything with mayonnaise and any vegetable that comes out of a can.
  3. Hear, Hear EC! I for one have so terribly missed your voice of reason during this election season. And yes, I also am incredibly proud of my country this morning. What an historic night! Let the healing begin.
  4. Oh, I'm so sorry Rosi! It's such a tough thing to go through. I read recently that you don't "get over" greif... you just find a way to live with it. That certainly makes sense to me as I continue to struggle with the loss of my "forever cat" Nikki in July. We were absolutely priviliged to have her with us for 18 years and I miss her every single day. Ted, I know exactly what you're saying - Nikki has made her continued presence known on several occasions and I find it very comforting. As for a tribute, there is a company called Sanctuary on Martha's Vineyard that has beautiful things: www.shopsanctuary.com Also, www.petmemorialjewelry.com has some nice things. Or, you could make a donation to your local shelter in Trix's name. If music comforts you, try Warren Zevon's Keep Me in You Heart - but have lots of tissues handy. Finally, this poem continues to give me great comfort: Ascension - Colleen Hitchcock And if I go, while you're still here... Know that I live on, vibrating to a different measure - behind a thin veil you cannot see through. You will not see me, so you must have faith. I wait for the time, when we can soar together again - both aware of each other. Until then, live your life to it's fullest. And when you need me, just whisper my name in your heart... I will be there. Take care Rosi... I'll be thinking of you. -Margaret

  6. Long ago an innocence Lived deep within my soul In a yesterday where love And dreams remain But disillusion clouds my eyes And the winter takes it's toll For the spring has gone And will not come again
  7. Oh Bernie you are a sweetheart! How could you have known how much I needed to see this today? I have been missing Nikki so, so badly. We did go and adopt another pound kitty, and he's trying awfully hard to worm his way into my heart, but he's not Nikki... Nikki was a pound kitty too - she was about 9 months old when we got her. She was definitely part Maine Coon. She had the lynx tips, toe tufts and full mane. At her prime she was 16 pounds and not overweight! And yes, AnneG, she was very, very wise. I'm sure that some of it came from age - she was 18 after all. My heartfelt thanks again to Bernie and all of the wonderful animal lovers here. Bless you all. -Margaret
  8. My deepest, heartfelt thanks to all of you very kind folks. My heart is absolutely broken - Nikki was my baby, especially as I do not have any human children. My husband and I got her from the Animal Rescue League in Boston and right from the second we brought her home she claimed us as her own. She never liked any other people - or cats! She lived a good, long life considering all of her medical issues. She'd been an insulin dependent diabetic for the past 7 years, had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, and she developed hyperthyroidism and chronic kidney failure over the past year. The hardest thing I had to do was to tell her that it was okay for her to stop fighting... Our vet was absolutely wonderful. She met us at her office on Sunday afternoon so that we would not have to go to the emergency hospital. All of your kind words do help. Again, thank you all so much for reaching out. Julesberry, there will be other pound kitties in our future -probably sooner than we anticipated. Pat, my sincere condolences on the loss of Theo. As my vet said to me on Sunday, there's never enough time - we always wish we had more. -Margaret
  9. Please say a prayer for the soul of my darling kitty Nikki. We had to do the hardest thing in the world today and I miss her so badly already... I know that there are many, many caring pet owners here and I know that you'll understand my pain. We had 17 wonderful years together and I wouldnt' trade them for the world.
  10. Chris, I'm so sorry that Rascal is going through this! I had a similar situation last summer with my then 17 year old kitty. After literally months of getting nowhere with my regular vet, I took Nikki to a homeopathic vet who diagnosed the problem in 1 day! For some unknown reason Nikki had developed a sudden allergy to the grain in her food. Within 24 hours of switching her to a home-cooked, grain-free diet, her vomiting and diarrhea resolved completely. Now I supplement with a wonderful canned cat food called "Spot's Stew" by Halo Pet. www.halopets.com Spot's Stew is organic, human-grade, and one of the very few grain-free cat foods. They make dog food also. Anyway, food allergies are definitely worth considering in Rascal's case. My thoughts and prayers are with you both.
  11. I have struggled with sinus issues for years. This past winter we had our entire 1st floor painted and the paint fumes caused an acute sinusitis that just wouldn't go away. I didn't even know that a chemically induced sinustis was possible! I HATE taking antibiotics and try to avoid them at all costs, but this time I was getting desparate. As a last ditch effort I went to my local Whole Foods store and bought a Neti pot. Believe it or not, after using the Neti pot 2x/day for just two days my symptoms (pain, pressure, post-nasal drip) were completely gone! I am now a firm advocate of the Neti pot. According to what I read, when you flush the irritants out with a warm saline solution, it allows the tissues to heal at a much faster rate. It does take a little getting used to, though.
  12. Phew! Today is going to be a much happier day.

  14. Sorry I'm a little late, but I've always really loved the following: Long ago an innocence Lived deep within my soul In a yesterday where love And dreams remain But disillusion clouds my eyes And the winter takes it's toll For the spring has gone And will not come again What an unbelievably powerful lyric!
