  1. JohnO For the record, I wasn't serious about that scam statement. But it sure felt that way when critics were tripping over themselves to praise Big Star. And you are correct, John. You and I have very similar taste in music. I love all the bands you mentioned as well as most of the bands on Marvin's list. A couple of years ago, I tried re-listening to Big Star. Thinking maybe I missed the mark on this band, but I swear, John, I heard nothing that made me want to change my original opinion. Call me a Philistine if you must, but where this band is concerned, we'll have to agree to disagree.
  2. Couldn't agree with you more, Bernie. I'm fairly sure Big Star was a scam foisted upon the power pop community by the music critics of the day. With the sole exception of "September Gurls", IMHO there's nothing even remotely listenable on their albums.
  3. Marv: Had the opportunity to see this band at an in-store meet and greet at Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ. And I can tell you thet these guys are the real deal. They played a 40 minute set and were able to pull off the amazing arrangements and harmonies from the cd flawlessly live. Do not miss the opportunity to catch these guys if they're playing in your area. Rich
  4. Robyn: Hope the day is everything you want it to be. Happy Birthday Rich
  5. many thanks to all the well-wishers. Much appreciated. Tommy - Mark me down as a definite for Saturday in September. See ya then.
  6. Just an FYI - Don't know if anyone has already posted this but I just received an e-mail from the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame that Abbey Rodeo with special guest Jim Bonfanti will be appearing on Sunday, June 12th between 7 and 11 p.m.
  7. Tommy: From January 24th - February 10th you can get 2-for-1 tickets at this site: http://www.nycgo.com/getmorenyc/broadway Good luck Rich
  8. Thanks, all, for the warm wishes. And while I choose not to be an active member of the site, I'm always checking in and lurking about hoping that Eric will one day make an announcement about a new album or a couple of concert dates. Best to you and yours Rich
  9. Harry: My wife, Olga and I have been married almost 28 years. Here's what I find works for us. For one thing, and I know it's a cliche, but don't sweat the small stuff. There are probably a dozen things that happen in a single day that could start an argument if you let them. Just don't let them. See them for the petty crap that they are and move on. Another thing that is essential is a shared sense of humor. It's real hard to argue when you can still make each other laugh even when times aren't so good. Treat your wife like your girlfriend. Remember how much attention you paid her when you were dating. Make an effort. Trust me it will be appreciated and returned. It also helps if you feel like the luckiest guy in the world because she's still there on the pillow next to you. I'm a songwriter and, to this day, she is still the inspiration for all my love songs. That's what works for me. Hope some of it was helpful. Rich
  10. I believe he also played Seaman Gruber on "McHale's Navy".
  11. Belated best wishes to the coolest cat in the Eric Carmen.com family. Hope the day treated you well, my friend.
  12. Paulie: That's very magnanimous of you.I can't help but wonder if you would show that same degree of largesse if Michael Vick weren't a celebrity and noted sport figure. Would you be that forgiving to, oh, I don't know, Michael Vick, the dog-killing bus driver? I don't know. I'm not gonna cast aspersions on your willingness to forgive. I just think if Michael Vick were an average Joe, he would be treated like the pariah he deserves to be. The point that you ignored in your answer is the fact that, to some extent, Michael Vick is mentally ill. For a person to have that little regard for a living creature, there would have to be some degree of mental deficiency, not to mention the moral implications. So he may have "done his time", but he has by no means been forced to deal with what he's done. But maybe I'm asking too much. In this day and age when no one wants to accept blame for what they've done, why should we hold Michael Vick to that standard. But no one can convince me that if he hadn't been caught, he would have continued to abuse and kill those animals. Again, just my opinion.
  13. Happy Birthday to a real class act! Hope your day is special. Rich
  14. Paulie: He may have "paid his debt to society", but the mental illness that allowed him to commit those vile crimes in the first place is not cured that easily. Had he not been caught, he most likely would have continued abusing animals without any contrition. You go ahead and pat him on the back because he can throw a football, I,for one, can't get the picture of the dogs he shot and abused out of my mind. But, of course, that's just my opinion. Feel free to disagree.
  15. So apparently we've come to a point in this society where a man can commit unspeakable cruelties to innocent animals and our response is, not to treat him like the inhumane filth that he is, but instead welcome him back with open arms and reward him with lucrative contracts. If there were ever a candidate for retroactive abortion, this guy is it. Folks, it's time to chlorinate the gene pool!
  16. I saw it, Tommy. Like much of Ricky Gervais's work it is intelligent, clever and just plain funny.
  17. Just got the cd in the mail yesterday. I forgot just how solid the whole lp was.
  18. Steve: I have a membership with the theatre so I get the opportunity to get great seats before they go onsale to the general public. Not a bad deal.
  19. I just placed 2 tickets for Springsteen @ Giants Stadium on Friday, Oct 9th onsale on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180414209188&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT Thought I'd let the Springsteen fans among us get 1st crack at them.
  20. Jay: I've seen Matthew Sweet on several tours since his 1st album, and also with the Thorns. The man is a huge talent. I"m looking forward to seeing if he and Hoffs can come close to recreating their harmonies live. Should be interesting either way.
  21. Just announced: There are 12 nominees up for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum. They are: ABBA, Darlene Love, Donna Summer, Genesis, Jimmy Cliff, KISS, Laura Nyro, LL Cool J, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Chantels, The Hollies, and The Stooges
  22. Just picked up 2 front row tickets for Matthew Sweet & Susanna Hoffs at the Sellersville Theatre on Sunday, Nov 15th. Should be a great show filled with 60s & 70s covers.
