I just found a whole bunch of photos of Eric and the Raspberries from a concert in December of 1975. (Commodore Ballroom, Lowell, Mass.) I thought the photos were lost! I haven't see them for over 20 years. What a find! I'm having flashbacks! They aren't the best quality, but who cares? There's one where Eric's at the piano and I can remember him playing a slow version of "Let's Pretend" when I took the shot. Dave

Goosebumps. That's what attracted me to Raspberries in August of 1972. I remember hearing GATW over my grey AM radio on Boston's 68-WRKO. (I was working at a summer camp in the White Mountains of NH, Center Ossipee to be exact) I got goosebumps the first time I heard it. I couldn't believe it. That song captured everything I craved as a lover of pop music. It had the melody, the hook, the power, the chords, the beat, the emotion, the voice and the naughtiness I loved. And it was all there...ALL in one song. When I bought the LP I nearly died. Every song on the LP gave me goosebumps (ok, except Rock & Roll Mama). But you get my drift. Eric's songs have it all for folks like us. Somehow or other (as Tom Cruise said in 'Jerry Maguire') he completes us. Dave

Bernie, In the old AOL days I was a lot more verbal than I am today. Back when a 16 baud modem felt like lightning we were all feeling the freedom of expression in a whole new way. We were like secret agents. Hidden in dark corners of our basements sending out anonymous messages into the night. For the first time we were expressing ourselves without the fear of discovery. In those days I was totally bi-polar. One day I'd be celebrating Eric and the Berries, the next I'd be making fun of his hair. Now, 8 years later, you all know who I am and where I live. And so does Eric. And if I say something to piss him off, he might not make another CD, he might never write another song, he might never perform live again...just to spite me!
In the anonymous days of the old AOL I didn't have those fears. I was just boldly going where few EC fans had gone before. Dave (another one down, 856 to go!)

Marvin, Although Darlene and I live only about a mile apart we have yet to meet. I believe it's because of The EC Matrix Phenomenon. You see, while multiple EC fans can co-exist in cyberspace, no two fans can actually meet in reality. There are two exceptions. One is a live EC concert. And the other is Bernie's Summer BBQ.

How did this happen? How have I gone from being one of the original rabid 1990's AOL message board inhabitants to someone who's only post 29 times on this message board? Compared to the rest of you I'm not much of a poster. I'm feeling so insignificant. (It's bad enough being Irish!) So Eric, in case you're reading this, remember, the measure of a good fan isn't by how many times they post a message, rather the message that they post. Dave

Totally agree with Darlene's first post. Totally disagree with Tony's. What makes Paul McCartney's, Elton John's, and Eric's voices so great is that all three are so distinctive. You know from the very first note who's singing the song. Remember the first time you heard 'I Wanna Be With You?" Chances are you recognized it because of Eric's voice. The first time I heard "Sunrise' I was in a record store on the campus of Syracuse U and I knew instantly that it was Eric's voice. I ran over to the 'R' section excepting to find a new Raspberries LP. Of course there was none. But I sure as heck didn't leave there without plopping down $4.99 for that shiny gold EC solo LP! (I remember shaking in disbelief the entire bus ride back to my dorm. An entire LP of EC! There IS a God!!!) I love his melodies. I love his hooks. I love his lyrics. And I love his voice. Dave

Let me start this post by saying I like football, beer, The Man Show, cleavage, fishing, NASCAR, Slim Jims, steak, and potatoes. Ok, that said, I had a dream with Eric in it last night. And it's not the first time! But last night's was totally wierd. He was "performing" at a yardsale in somebody's basement. He was walking around behind some velvet red ropes wearing a mexican blanket reciting poetry that made absolutely no sense. His hair was totally reggae. No one was paying any attention to him, except me. I wanted to ask for his autograph but he was acting like he belonged on another planet. I was afraid he'd freak out and all the bargain shoppers would ask me to leave. End of dream.
Am I weird? Has Eric visited you in your dreams or should I see a therapist?

I remember when my wonderful wife (of 24 years) and I were having a hard time I found the lyics to 'Someday' quite inspiring. Nowadays I like Eric's love song lyrics a whole lot better. Dave

In his 30 plus years of songwriting Eric has written tons of great lyrics but there are two lines that will be forever stuck in my head. From 'All For Love'; "She walked out that door and all my dreams went with her into the night." And from 'Go All The Way'; "...had a hole in the place where my heart should have been."
Anyone else have a favorite line or two?

Tony, you're absolutely right. Especially about the 'record execs'. Eric used to sing about how poorly the music biz was treating him (Overnight Sensation, Desparate Fools, Take It or Leave It, etc). Well, now that we've got the internet and private labels, there's no excuse for not producing more! As Eric once said " Well I know it sounds funny. But I'm not in it for the money, no. I don't need reputation. And I'm not in it for the show". If that's the case....give us some music, Eric....we'll make it a hit record, yeah! Dave

First of all, I'm glad no one's throwing tomatoes at me for my initial 'pink slip' post. I've kept a fairly low profile here at ec.com lately, not because I'm not interested....it's just that there's nothing new to say! I'd love something new from Eric. I NEED something new from Eric! I'm not getting any younger! I'm envious of Eric's ability to be the ultimate father. (I wish I had the bank roll that would allow that!). But between taking the kids to the park, playing hide and go seek, and coloring together can't he sit down and create something...anything..that says 'yes...I'm still here'. Because, Eric, we're still here...waiting...

Eric, if you worked for me, I would have fired you by now. Your production has been way off in recent years. You never spend any time with your clients or team members. And you've got all of us running around doing your work for you. Did you find another job and forget to tell us about it? If so, I completely understand. If not...then get to work!

I hated 'Boats' when it came out. I was working at an amusement park in Salisbury Beach, Mass. working on a ride called the Himalaya. We wore white pants, white bucks, red and white striped shrits and a snazzy red blazer...but most of all we played the music that made the ride fun! Girls loved it when we played the Bay City Rollers, Sweet, EWF, and Barry White. Those songs made me look good to the wide-eyed, thrill seeking, halter-topped girls of New England. 'Boats', however, wasn't fun. I hated Eric for putting out such a downer LP. 'Boats' just wasn't a good 'ride' record. Imagine a spinning, speeding ride full of screaming teenagers on a hot summer night, the lights whirling, the scent of the sea and cotton candy mixing erotically in the air, and suddenly out of the blaring speakers comes 'Row Row Row Your Boat'!
Seque-way to 2002. Now I'm loving the record. I couldn't appreciate it back then, but these days I'm lovin' every second of it.
Back in '77 I was looking for a musical equivalent of beer from Eric. Instead, he gave us a wine. One that gets better with age.

I, too, am in Cranbury, NJ, just north of Princeton, about 1 mile south of Darlene. Hmmm, seems to me the 'pocket' of EC fans is just off Exit 8A of the New Jersey Turnpike!
Bernie, in your spare time (!) how about designing an interactive world map that will allow us to show where we all live. Dave
