Kirk and MAM-- Thanks guys! I was feeling lonely in this posting! I kinda figured they were either singing softly or something and that it had to be just totally the most dorky thing to stand there and do. Eric did "Top of the Pops" and sang "Hungry Eyes" way back when and he forgot to mouth some of the words and he got the weirdest look on his face. It's a funny clip. Julie

Okay, so this is either a really stupid question that you all assume I should know the answer to, OR, it's a really good question that nobody knows the answer too. Which is it?? Julie

Pardon my ignorance, but I was watching some video of Eric tonight when he was lip-synching some of his hits and I got to wondering about how this is done. I mean, here's a bunch of musicians playing away on guitars, drums, etc., and it is so obviously the recorded version of the song that is airing on the show. Are they really playing and/or singing to the live audience, or are they just faking everything? If they are just standing there moving around and moving their lips, I'm just thinking that must feel really stupid! Just wondering..... Thanks, Julie

Oh man! Now I'm having this sick image of Eric ala Ross on "Friends". Remember the episode with Ross in the leather pants and he went into the bathroom and he couldn't get them pulled up and he ended up with talcum powder all over himself and the leather pants around his ankles and the girlfriend opened the bathroom door??! Anyway, I'd probably get the giggles if I encounted Eric in his "Tonight You're Mine" get up at Walmart! Now, 25 years ago in the white jumpsuit unzipped to the navel and I might have thought differently. Actually, if I saw someone like that around these parts, I'd have been scared!! ---Julie

How about "High Cost of Lovin' You"? To those who've never heard it, it's kind of like Eric was asked to guest star on "Hee Haw" and this is what he chose. Oddly, I can never get this song out of my head. Maybe I'm just weird....... Seriously, anything is fine with me Bernie. You never disappoint!

Oh my! I have no children, so I am certainly no expert (although, I was one for a number of years--lol), but it does seem as if these lyrics could lead to some rather interesting situations when uttered/sang by a wee one. I guess I would suggest not playing "All Through The Night" with any frequency........ Cats are so much easier! My little guy (16 pounds) loves Eric's music, but he only hums along......... --Julie

I caught about 20 seconds of "Fountains of Wayne" on Leno last night. It was really weird. I'm flippin' channels and I see this group singin' and I'm thinkin', "hmmmm....this kinda sounds like something from 'That Thing You Do'". Then Leno walks over and starts clappin' his hands and says, "That was 'Fountains of Wayne'". Cool. I had never heard of them before and then you guys mention them and boom...there they are on Leno. Just heard them for a tiny bit. They seemed out of tune to me, but since I didn't hear the whole thing, I'll reserve judgement. --Julie

Wow! I'm having deja vu all over again!!! I think we had this discussion about these same songs a long, long time ago! Maybe, even on the old board. I always liked "If I Should Love Again". It really does remind me of "Never Gonna Fall In Love Again". I'll have to see if that's on my "Barry's Greatest Hits" CD. Wow, I think I can hear Tony gagging clear over here in Iowa!!! --Julie

What a find! With the right photo software, you could probably give those old photos new life! I kind of dabble in that sort of thing--used to be a photographer and did all of my own hand-retouching. Of course, nowadays, it's a lot easier with a scanner and the computer. My current fave is Microsoft Digital Image Pro Suite 9. If you want to send me scan me one to work on, send me a private message and I'll give it a whirl. Adobe is great too--but the fancy one is pretty pricey.... Anyways, way to go on the great find! --Julie

A friend just sent me this e-mail. I thought it was cute and wanted to share--you've probably all seen it before, but it was new to me.... Some of the artists from the 60's are re-releasing their hits with new > lyrics to accommodate us of the older generation... and that's good news, > for those of us feeling a little older, nostalgic and missing > those great old tunes... > > Herman's Hermits - "Mrs. Brown, You've Got A Lovely Walker." > > The Bee Gees - "How Can You Mend A Broken Hip?" > > The Temptations - "Papa's Got A Kidney Stone." > > Ringo Starr - "I Get By With A Little Help - From Depends." > > Marvin Gaye - "I Heard It Through The Grape Nuts." > > Procol Harem - "A Whiter Shade Of Hair." > > Johnny Nash - "I Can't See Clearly Now." > > Leo Sayer - "You Make Me Feel Like Napping." > > ABBA -- "Denture Queen," > > Paul Simon - "Fifty Ways To Lose Your Liver." > > Roberta Flack - "The First Time I Ever Forgot Your Face." > > Commodores - "Once, Twice, Three Times To The Bathroom." > > Rolling Stones - "You Can't Always Pee When You Want." > > Bobby Darin - "Splish, Splash, I Was Havin' A Flash."

Well, made a special trip to Best Buy in Omaha today (I was going to Omaha anyway, just not to BB). Anyway, tried to get the "New" Raspberries Compilation CD. The guy looked it up on his computer and said it is "back-logged" and their store won't be getting any of them. There will be 3 at their Lincoln store. I realize there's nothing "new" on here, but I just like to have everything! He said it is re-mastered, so hopefully, it will sound good, if I can get my paws on one....... --Julie

Oh Gina! Please send some of that rain our way! The cracks are so deep in the ground I'm afraid I'll get swallowed up when I go out walking!!!! Our soybeans are shriveling up and our lawn is totally brown. We haven't had rain in ages! --Julie

Well Darlene, does running this record player require me to ride a bicycle like the one the Professor rigged up on Gilligan's Island? If that is indeed the case, the one on my island is actually going to be a CD player....... My songs, in no particular order are: If You Change Your Mind............Raspberries Until The Night....................Billy Joel Into The Night.....................Benny Mardonis Cristofori's Dream................David Lanz Turn Of A Friendly Card Medley.....Alan Parsons Stay The Night.................... Jane Olivor I Go To Rio........................Pablo Cruise Long and Winding Road..............Beatles Don't Wanna Say Goodbye............Raspberries Act of Love........................John Waite My "album" will be the Geffen one! ----Julie

I posted this before, a long time ago, but it's semi-amusing, so I'll give it another shot. Here goes: I was just a kid in 1972 and I remember hearing GATW on the car radio of our 1971 gold Caprice Classic with the white vinyl top--pretty car. Anyway, I digress.....I do remember hearing that song and thinking it was quite "groovy" (oooooo--did I really say Groovy??). Of course, to my dumb little kid ears, I thought the words were, "Don't Go Away"--the phrase "go all the way" had no meaning to this naive girl-child fresh from the farm in Iowa. If my mom knew what it meant, she never let on, but I do remember us singing along to it on our way to town to get groceries on Friday mornings. I also remember "Don't Wanna Say Goodbye". I don't think I knew at the time though that they were the same band. I also used to spend my $2 allowance on "Tiger Beat" magazines at McCrory's. There were frequently articles on the Berries and I remember very much all the ads to win the specially converted VW that looked like a Rolls Royce. If I dug far enough, I could probably find one of these old "teen zeens". At the time, I was much more into "Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods" and Bobby Sherman (Julie, Julie, Julie Do You Love Me gave me all the goosepimples I could handle back then). I loved Eric's singles but was totally clueless that he was the voice behind the 'Berries until my roommate in college pointed it out to me after I told her how much I loved "The Way We Used To Be" after we heard it on "Days of our Lives". **sigh** The rest is history....... ---Jules

I'll probably get blasted for this, but oh well, here goes: Marvin, (this post has been deleted by the writer) Sorry, everyone. I'm not trying to stir up trouble. I'm pretty much a lemonade girl myself. ---Julie hmmm....I feel so much better!!!! Darlene--you'd have loved it! Blackhawkpat--well said!

Way to go, JuliaD!!! A few years back I was hit by an idiot who who was attempting to leave the scene of a crash that he caused. He ducked down a side street and hit my car and then went into a deep ditch full of water. He was very drunk. Seems if they can hide out long enough to sober up, they don't get charged with DWI. Makes me wonder if that was what was going on with the red Nissan. Good detective work!!! --Julie

Oh my! I was just speechless after reading the "Ask Eric" thing. I too must echo Darlene's, "....Eric.......HELLO!!!!" Good grief, Charlie Brown!!! To my ear, there is no other voice that has so many moods, characters and emotions. Rich Little would be the only entertainer that I can come up with that has as many colors to his voice as Eric does. I realize these things are subjective and not everyone feels the way I do, but Golly-Gosh-Gee-Whiz, to read those words from Eric makes me just feel awful. Makes me feel like we're all a bunch of idiots because we love his voice...... ********heavy sigh........************* --Julie (wiping a tear as it rolls down my sad cheek)

Okay, this maybe a dumb topic, but like I said, I'm feeling a little bored. Let's say that we've all been hired to help Eric with a new CD. What talents/gifts/etc.... are you going to contribute to this effort? Do you play any instruments? are you a songwriter? maybe a PR person? Okay, I'll start. Hmmmm......see, this is why this is a dumb thread.....I can't do anything!!! I could play in a back-up band and I might be able to do some "breathless female" backing vocals...... Anyone else? --Julie

*sniff-sniff* well, I love the smell of mimeograph paper (what they used in school before Xerox machines), Play-Dough, Yankee Candle "Clean Cotton" fragrance, bread baking, Orange Pine-sol, my cat's fur, my mom's roses, and a new box of Crayons. I Love Shalimar--used to wear it all of the time--it always reminded me of bubblegum/candy. I always liked "Charlie" too--haven't smelled that in ages. I used to love the smell of the inside of my clarinet case. The cork grease on the joints of the horn would mingle with the velvet lining of the case and a new box of reeds and it would just "send me" every time I opened it. Hmmm....I'm getting an idea for a new thread....... --Julie

Ditto what Darlene said. It is very frustrating. --Julie

Well, I'm feeling bad for all of you out East without any power and hoping all are safe and sound. I know many of you won't even see this till things are back on, but do hope you know that the rest of us are thinking of you! Eric, hope you have a notepad, a pen and a candle. You've used "light" in songs before, maybe this is a sign for you to write some new songs?? LOL! --Julie
-
Wow, Steveh, I think, at least for my dream, you have hit the proverbial head of the nail with the hammer! I am kind of a cheapskate--well, let's just say I'm a practical Iowa farm girl and I only get 10 days off of work a year, so I probably wouldn't run off to Cleveland. ROFL!! I love the rest of the interpretations as well. This has been a most entertaining thread! ---Julie

Happy Birthday, Eric! ---Julie

Okay, we're all aware of the "raspberry-scented" scratch and sniff sticker on the first Raspberries album, right? Hamilton, Joe Frank and Reynolds' album, "Fallin' In Love" had a rose-scented inner jacket. Have any other groups used "scent" to sell? --Julie

Well, I'd bring some of our homegrown Iowa sweetcorn, a box of Omaha Steaks, some of my homemade dinner rolls, a couple of my mom's pecan pies and a tin of her yummy caramels. Nice, simple and good. --Julie
