mp3's

Recommended Posts

Alright Bernie,

If we can't get a new cd out of Eric remastering some of his old unreleased material...how about two mp3's a month instead of just the one? Since the majority of this board are veterans of this site, it's not like the music would be falling into the wrong hands.

Not that your efforts aren't appreciated, because they are, I just know as a long time fan, I would love to hear "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea" etc.

"Devil and the Deep Blue Sea?"! That sounds like it would be either a rocker or absolutely gorgeous. Okay, Bernie, if Eric says you can, what about "Devil and the Deep Blue Sea?"! (We LOVED "Wild Wild Heart! smile --Darlene

I've never understood the fascination with "D&tDBS." For me it's always sounded overblown and way too melodramatic. With some major editing, it might be listenable.

Tony C -- I think I read where Devil and the Deep Blue Sea was a Carmen/Pitchford effort....pretty good in the same vein as Boats..don't know how it could ever be a single, it's about 7 or 8 minutes long, if I recall correctly.

There is a version of "BTDATDBS" where Eric managed to cut some time off of it, but it was still way longer than that 3 minute hit the radio stations look for. This is one of those songs that Eric said could either be an epic ballad or really bad, depending on how it came out. Kirk.

Kirk's words are my sentiments exactly: this song could be an epic ballad or really bad. In its present configuration, I think it's really bad.

I consider myself a pretty good fan, but even though I remember reading about that "devil" song, I've never heard it. Hows about it Bern' think its a candidate for mp3?--Puhleeze

Bernie, We all seem to be clamoring for the same thing. NEVER will too much EC ruin MY appetite...What do you guys mean "it could be an epic ballad or really bad"? Nothing Eric writes could ever be bad. So it's a ballad, not a rocker. Okay, then, let's hear it...the lyrics sound so achingly gorgeous. Come on Bernie, we're "aching" to hear it...--Darlene

Darlene,

Those sentiments were Eric's. It's a beautiful song, but it's all in the production. Especially when some have labeled you a 'balladeer'. You just want to make sure it doesn't end up being over produced, plodding, overly dramatic, with that Barry Manilow drum thing every other beat ñ well, you get the idea. Personally, I love his ballads. Can't get enough of them (sorry Marvin). Kirk.

Let us un-biased Carmen fans hear the damn song. We can vote on it. If there is a strong support for the tune. Eric re-records it and puts it on his next CD. That will save about a year on the release date. I envision a lively debate that rivals the Reps. and Dems. debating the war on Iraq. I envision Darlene absolutley loving every note of the song. I envision Marvin saying it just doesn't have the Va-voom of Eric's older material. But the important thing is, His biggest fans will get to hear it and give their opinion...It's just that simple...Bernie, make it happen. You're a star now. You have the power.

I realize that with my recent posts everyone wonders if I really am an EC fan or not. Well I've been a fan for probably longer than most in this forum, and I'd be the first one to give the devil his due (no pun intended). I've got nothing against Eric's ballads, he's written some really beautiful songs with the 'berries and solo. And believe it or not, he's also written some duds. I just think that "BtDAtDBS" (in the version I heard) is way too long and repetitious. Not sure how much of a hand Eric had in the lyrics and music, or whether Dean Pitchford did all the work, but for my tastes, the lyrics are filled with cliche's and the music is overblown. This song needs editing in the worst way. Guess you'll each have to hear it for yourself and form your own opinions.

Bernie, where are you?? People are crying out to you! What's the hang-up with this particular song? We've gotten to hear other unreleased stuff as mp3's - why not this? I am one of the lucky ones and have already heard it, but I'm dying for these other poor souls.

Hey guys, cut Bernie some slack. I'm sure he's starting to feel a little pressure to release more goodies, but it's not just a production line at E.C.com. There is only so much unreleased stuff that is out there or decent enough to put on the site. Also, and this is not intended to be critical of anybody; there are people who have invested hundreds of hours and dollars to get these unreleased songs and demos, and I guess I'm one of them. We all started out as fans with basically nothing but what was in record stores, but we searched and advertised and wheeled and dealed to get this stuff. So, those that don't have what they want-get to work on your collection and buy, sell, trade- find things to make it happen. But don't expect Bernie to put all these gems on the website. And when he does, be thankful and wait patiently for whatever comes next, whenever it comes. By the way, I'm not speaking for Bernie, I'm sure he would be too polite to say something of this nature, anyway. Just my 2 cents worth. Peace, and long live Eric Carmen.com. Kirk.

Hey, if we don't mind abusing each other, and since Bernie is really one of "us", why can't we abuse him from every now and then? This is the first time this year. I mean he does such a great job on the site, it may be months before we get another chance. I want to hear the doggone song, and I am not above some subtle abuse to get it!

Kirk,

I am not sure what your point is. is it that you have spent money aqcuiring these tracks? I have purchased every cd (and lp's before cd's!), either raspberrie or solo that was'nt a greatest hits. Have the arista definitive collection...bought "Winter Dreams" for almost $40.00! Would be the first to pay online for a cd of demo's/live/unreleased material. (Oh yeah, one concert, in chicago, opened for hall-n-oates). Have been visiting this website for over three years! I even have the Raspberries Greatest Hits" cd w/the extra tracks. Got it from a record club before they pulled it! But I did not get it for free...I paid hard earned money for it.

My point is that I think I have supported my favorite recording artist as well as one fan can over the years. Much of what Bernie "gives" us Eric would not make money from anyway, demo's, live versions! This site is so hardcore that I am sure if we(those w/o access to these tracks) knew where to get these songs, and pay for them we would.

As for Bernie feeling pressure, he surely knows that this website has the most open, well intended folks on this planet, but just as you would with your children, you have to give them their space to "vent" once and awhile! I'm certain he is not feeling pressure, this very conversation is why this site exists!
