The End Of An Era

What an ordeal, Duane. So sorry to find out about the tragic part of your journey—but happy to hear about how you’re moving ahead and “tying the knot” again. Congrats and best wishes. And it’s great to see you posting again.

It’s cool to see a ghost town come alive!

Duane, life certainly has a way of interfering with living...So glad that your life is on an upward swing...Hopefully, Bernie will give us a reprieve...He must be quite humbled by the love and respect that has been shown here...It has to be an overwhelming realization when he reads that this board has struck a chord with so many people...Putting aside the love of EC music, this board has acted as a social awakening for some of us, a thearaputic center for others and a support group, at one time or another,  to one and all...Hope it can go on, for I have, selfishly speaking, been reawakened to a phase of my life that I can’t possibly see me just looking through the window again...I walked through the front door and was welcomed back with open arms...I’m here, I’m staying, until Bernie throws me out...I’m not prepared if that moment is tonight...It’s too late in life for me to find another safe harbor...Finding one was hard enough...

How many times do we find ourselves driving alone in our cars, listening to tunes, and feeling happy. Yet there are times when life kicks you in the gut, and you can't seem to find comfort anywhere, not even in the music that is usually so uplifting. But the nice thing is that those tunes will be waiting for us when we're ready to return to them. I am hoping that the same can be said about this board. When other priorities in life come calling, and we may have to take temporary leave, it would be nice to know that it will still be right here waiting when we're ready to return.

Bundles and Benfer: those are truly beautiful posts! I even called Lew to personally express how impressed I was with the sentiments here. Very moving. And then Craig made it a two-fer that sums up the importance of the community that Bernie built. Bernie, you don’t want to send your community packing... do you?

Bernie….

Saying “Thank you” is not enough.    Finding this message board was a blessing.  I came across it soon after my mom had passed. It was a long five years of caring for her and I was lost when she passed.  I was still in “responsibility mode” and didn’t know how to fill my time.  She always told me “All the good you are doing for me will come back to you, not always in the way you want, but it will come back to you”.   She was so right.  Well, all that good did come back to me.  This message board was just what I needed.  Who knew it would open up an entire different world for me.  I have met the most wonderful people here and formed lasting friendships.  I have cried along with these people when they shared their disappointments, I have laughed with these people…at times, so hard that my tummy hurt, I have fought with some of these people and came very close to getting married at WAB, but I chose to “walking the plank” and I have seen men wearing grass skirts (which still haunts me).    My dream was to finally see the Raspberries in concert (Mom never allowed me to go to concerts way back in the day....”Sex, Drugs and Rock and Roll”) and I finally did……5 times !!   Not only did I see my favorite band, I met them.  I had a blast.  From the time I joined this board to the last concert in Cleveland were the best years of my life.   I know I wasn’t around the board for a while because of work responsibilities, but it was nice to know it was always there.   I’m so sad to see it come to an end.  For all this, for opening up your home, for allowing all this to happen, for the memories and for everything else, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you.  You and everyone here have touched my heart in ways I never thought possible.  Hugs!!   :heartpump:

Diane

As others have said, this message board has meant so much to so many.

I, too, consider myself blessed to have had the opportunity to interact with this group of characters... intelligent, witty, kind, loving, caring, kooky, opinionated, talented and so much more.

We were brought together by Bernie through our love of EC's music...uniting us from around the globe.

No longer isolated little islands, instead we are united by a boat against the current.

I love each and every one of you!!!!!

Susie

Bernie,

Thanks for all you do.  It was by chance that I came across this board years ago. There was lots of nights with much laughter.  Who knew I would get to meet such nice people?

Thank you for all the color you've added to my life.

Suzanne

Actually yes! Can I buy one from you? True story: my wife and I gave ours to Wally and Kay at the after-concert party at the Highline in NYC back in 2007. PM me where to send a check. I need to add it to my ‘berries stash.

Larry…I will gladly send you the button. I don’t want anything for it.  I do remember giving all the band members two buttons at the concert. I had 300 made up for the show and remember walking through the streets of NYC, with Marvin, carrying all 300 of them and a cheesecake.  I made a deal with Jim that if he gave me a concert, I would give him a homemade cheesecake. He did and I delivered.  PM me your address and I’ll get it out in the mail for you.

Thank you so much Bernie and EVERYONE !! See you again somewhere !!

We've heard this song a million times—and more increasingly by cover artists. But it's nice to revisit the original, live and in concert, accompanied by orchestra. Thank you, Hossy!
