WORST Beach Boys Song

Recommended Posts

ira

To quote Kenny Rogers... My Beach Boys ..."But Ya Know I Love You"....

STILL in every good  relationship there are rough moments..

There are Beach Boys songs during Brian's out-of-his-mind excess period...that I thought were a bit off the mark..

There are some songs...not all...during their struggling to be hip in a hippy changing-world period..that I thought were a wee bit embarrassing...

But...especially..under Mike's guidance...never a group to leave ANY money on the table....

They re-recorded from the Wild Honey album "Here Comes the Night" in a Disco version..

THIS may be my candidate for WORST Beach Boys song...What's your nominee for this dubious distinction?

Hi Ira,

I never heard this cut before.

It is just downright frightening!!!!

I think you win the worst BB's song contest hands down.

My least favorite Beach Boys song is actually a good song!

I just don't care for it & will change the radio station when it comes on.

My distaste for the song stems from an overzealous 6th grade music teacher who played it over & over & over

in attempts to get a bunch of restless kids to get the harmonies.  It was not pretty.

Sorry James, I know it is one of your favorites, but my least favorite BB's song is Sloop John B.

Like I said, it's a good song; I just have a bad association with it.

Bernie..I'm feeling like Jerry and George on "Seinfeld"...when one of them points out to the other that their current girl friend has "Man Hands" or has a terrible laugh!

I'm tryin' REAL hard to forget that I EVER heard this song so that I can continue to enjoy the Beach Boys in a haze of idiotic bliss..

I LOVE the Beach Boys..but unlike the Beatles...they have had SOME missteps...But like anyone I LOVE...I consider that part of their charm..

Beach Boys..Eric..Four Seasons...got me over MANY bumps in life..

I love it when I can perk up a guy's ears...etc...!!!!

I can't think of a song of E's or Rs' I dislike. Some of those tunes are part of my life in the most wonderful ways. <3

Kokomo didn't bother me until that Escape/PC song. Now it gives me shivers like nails on a chalk board....??

Hi James,

I think it was Cato who gave me the paws up.

Just so you know, it cost me a case of Milkbones.

That's why his teeth look so good.

Hey Bernie,

Maybe the Beach Boys were trying to pay homage to the First Lady who wore a lot of shifts, so did Audrey Hepburn.

Think tight little black dress.

Still, it is a pretty horrible song.

No benefit of the doubt here.

I do agree with Ira, rewind that song & erase from the memory banks.

Also like Ira said, there is perfection in the imperfection.

It makes the superstars human & fallible, just like us.

Cayenne, you got it goin' on, just like "Stacy's mom".

Boys just can't resist your Southern charms!

Your Kokomo is absolutely Karayucky.  Good pick.

;)

Hey M.E.,

Sorry to remind you that the Escape/PC song is on the GOTG soundtrack.

Just skip track #4 Side B on Disc One of the vinyl album and you'll be safe.

Awww, thanks for the compliment sweetie. Yes I know about Escape on GOTG! Ugh!

Can't exactly say why but Kokomo is irka gurka to me but think it's just mindless filler.

I'm glad I didn't see the movie "Cocktail", otherwise I might have a bad association for the song "Kokomo", too.  The place I saw them (the Beach Boys) perform it was on one of the soap operas during the day when I was clicking through channels and happened upon them.  I kinda like it.

And with the very bad exception of the song "Timothy", I like Rupert Holmes songs like "Escape".  I liken "Escape" in feel and mood to Billy Joel's song "These Are The Times".

Susie...Cocktail makes me think of Elisabeth Shue who had me at Adventures IIn Babysitting..one of the few movies that I enjoyed back when my kids were young and I had to attend Care Bears..My Little Pony...Rainbow Bright...etc.

...Oh God ..;..Please Make It Stop...:(

Not a fan of Tom Cruise or "Cocktail."

"Escape?" Eh. I don't hate it. (How's that for a back-handed compliment?)

By the way, Ira, I always think of "Adventures in Babysitting" when I hear about Elisabeth Shue, too.

But "Kokomo"? Sorry, but I can't hate a song that Kermit sings so endearingly. :)

Susie et al.

Oh Lord, Now you've sealed it for me - Cocktail?  Tom Cruise?  I will admit to liking Risky Business:)

Ira,

I remember my childcare days with my son Paul and his friends. Many of those memories are fond, but some kinda remind me more of the movie "The Sitter" with Jonah Hill sans the Sam Rockwell character (who is funny in the movie, but I don't know anyone like that - thank goodness!).

I do recall one day when the background music of Pac Man made me feel like I wanted to throw the game out of the window.

Okay, Cheryl, Kermit singing is cute and so is his woman Piggy...

Cayenne..I love Jonah Hill...(though not as much as my Jersey Crush Elisabeth Shue for obvious reasons)...

As I get older...I know far more old "Pop Culture" than new stuff...

So it was a total AND pleasant surprise for me...a coupla years back...when at the Retro Fitness Gym in Woodbridge N.J. which had a dark room where you could see a big screen movie while on a treadmill or eliptical...I caught Jonah's "Sitter" which was a not bad remake of "Adventures In Baby Sitting"..

(BTW one day I caught the new "Footloose" there too..But..of course...I knew about that one... :P )

(BTW...The following cemented my life-long crush on Elisabeth Shue... )
