Eric Carmen

"Brand New Year" Free Download

Recommended Posts

Nice pick-up at UltimateClassicRock.com:

http://ultimateclassicrock.com/eric-carmen-new-song/

Even better, UltimateClassicRock.com syndicates their articles, so this story is all over the internet at radio station and music news websites from coast-to-coast!

And according to an online blog (http://thetimemachineradioshow.blogspot.com/2013/12/a-warm-lovin-christmastime-is-more-than.html),  "Brand New Year" has already aired on these four Hawaii radio stations: KEAO (Maui), KONI (Lanai), KPMW (Kahuluiu) and KRKH (Maui)!

Bernie, I really like that site.  Those guys share a lot of musical love for Eric and the Rs too, and I know Marv and I have referenced the site in our posts here previously. Fantastic!!  M.E.

They are shaking your shoulders...Eric...Eric... they await for more.

Like the times of the past.  It's your time again !

Now, you are feeling the Ying-Yang.

When you do something, there is a positive result.

Thanks for posting the lyrics, Bernie

Re the songwriting course at the Cleveland Institute, I recall when Eric first mentioned this months ago. What an opportunity for any aspiring musician, or just anyone who is interested in the music. Could Eric advise the latest on this course?

I waited 30 years for Raspberries to reunite and to finally see them in concert. Never in my wildest dreams could I have imagined that the event would ever take place, or that I'd see five concerts! Similarly, the wait for new music from Eric has felt as long. Frankly, I had resigned myself to the belief that Eric would never again release new music, that time had passed him by, and there was nothing left for him to say. Sadly, with each passing day this website went from being a religious ritual to a forgotten place.

Now I can certainly understand any jaded feelings that Eric might harbor toward the industry, and his possible lack of interest in getting back 'on the bike.' In 2013 how does a songwriter like Eric Carmen even get his music heard and feel that he can be relevant to a music-listening audience that has a limited attention span? Well this is how you do it - you write a song that touches a nerve  lyrically, combine with a melody and arrangement so lush that it leaves you in a state of wonderment (pun not intended), and you drum up all the forces in social media and get it into the public's consciousness. I believe "Brand New Year", while on the sufface may appear to have a short shelf-life because of it's new year theme, is a song that could do magic for Eric.

I've listened to the song with headphones about 10x, and each time I find myself hearing something that I didn't hear before. That was always the coolest thing about the best music that mattered to me - discovering something hidden or so subtle that you wondered, "Did I just hear that?" "BNY" has traces of familiarity, but yet it manages to sound fresh and different.

This song, if nothing else, has rejuvenated my love for Eric's music, and has cemented my belief that Eric DOES have a lot more to say musically. The chord has been struck, let's hope that the inspiration continues and that 2014 brings forth much more from Eric.

Take care.

I'm from New Orleans and we have to "believe" on a variety of fronts!!

Those of us who've believed in Eric from the beginning of his musical career are T-H-R-I-L-L-E-D, and a good old N.O. voodoo hex on those who may have thought he was "past it?!"

Just assume for the moment, Eric doesn't write another song the music industry wants to possess.   (Teaching is sacred - Stephen Sondheim said that too.)

Wouldn't love what already exists any less...

Just spoke to my station manager .... I'm the pre-recorded overnight "talent", Big Al Knight. Told him about the song, and he's willing to give it some plays on his morning show to see if we can stir some interest. Our slogan is "The Greatest Hits Of All Time" and the music is from the 60's to 80's. Beatles on the half hour every hour. The stations listeners eat up Beatles and Beach Boys. This would fit right in. So hopefully starting next Monday, we'll be playing some new Eric Carmen. Wahoo!  Oh yeah .... WMCE 88.5 or www.wmce.fm  24 hours a day, commercial free. If it's played, it will be during the morning drive from 6am to 10am, The Captain Dan Show. Here's hoping!

Your last sentence sums it up for me. I listen to Raspberries everyday, and solo songs almost as much. I have to have my daily fix. My husband says no one can talk to me in the morning until I have had a smoke, a cup of coffee and a couple of Carmen tunes.

.......And, there have now been 10,000 independent streams of "BNY" registered at the Legacy Soundcloud in exactly 72 hours, since the link was opened!

Cool!

Think there are about 2,000 more registered at Legacy as of this a.m. that I can see!!  :)

I read your post last night about music bringing us together and that you said something about your heritage being Russian and Lithuanian. I don't see your post anymore but I would still like to respond with this...

I’m an Irish girl, with an Italian last name who has a Lithuanian friend who makes really good ethnic moonshine, but I think that no matter what my heritage is, or who I’m good friends with, (or what “spirit†I’m enjoying) nothing can bring me closer to others than bonding through music. And great music is always the best! Nice post. You hit the nail on the head!

Stacy,

Yes ec's post was under mine and Adelia's and I responded to the post as well, but I don't see it now either.  The post was very sweet and meaningful in any case.

I'm German/Russian, French and Irish - all groups generally viewing "moonshine" and "spirits" very favorably!  :haha:

I like all this bonding stuff too.

Eric, I just saw this thread. First, "CONGRATULATIONS!!!!" on your brand new "baby"!!!!  It is as beautiful and heartrending as you intended! I am experiencing that "walking on air" and "lightheaded dreamy" feeling that I get when you do something new and amazing. :)  Besides your genius gifts for melody, harmony, musicality and artistic expression, it's always been the ability to express the heart of the human condition and your precision in conveying/expressing it that makes your music so universal. And you hit it way out of the park with this one!

And here is my "THANK YOU SOOOOO VERY VERY MUCH!" for the beautiful gift. I got here a bit late, but that's alright--I always save the very best Christmas gift till last, and your new song, "Brand New Year" is definitely the very best Christmas gift I've gotten. :)

Wishing you an absolutely GOLDEN "Brand New Year."  2014 is going to be a spectacular year for you, and so, for all of US too!

:)--Love, Dar

I posted this in the other "Brand New Year" thread, so I'll put it here, too:

It would have been ideal to see Eric perform "Brand New Year" on one of the New Year's Eve shows, and apparently there was something in the works that didn't pan out, unfortunately. Regardless, it's getting some surprisingly good play --- I'm not sure about the exact number of downloads but I've heard it's north of 10,000 (correct me if I'm wrong, someone!).

A lot of the credit goes to Eric's girlfriend. She's been passing along the free download link at a manic pace, making calls, and rounding up interest, and it's obviously getting the song some distribution. She's also lined up some interviews with Eric, so we'll see some press mentions forthcoming.

But, of course, it's never enough! So pitch in, friends and fans: cut and paste the "Brand New Year" link on your Facebook page, at other social media sites, at your favorite music sites, at private family and group pages, and elsewhere in your virtual travels.

Also, try the radio stations in your region: They all have websites and 800 numbers --- post it and/or call it in. It's the perfect song to bring in the new year at a time when, really, don't we all want a fresh start more than ever, leaving behind the "bad eggs" and experiences of the past? Beyond that, getting the song in front of people helps promote the upcoming Sony Legacy CD, similar to the way "Hungry Eyes" and "Make Me Lost Control" gave a lift to the 1988 greatest-hits compilation.

The window of time to promote a record isn't very big in this day and age, when there's so much competition. On the other hand, social media has a loooong reach. And it doesn't matter if it's a Justin Bieber-aged artist or a classic rocker we're talking about; look at the way Paul McCartney's team used social media to great advantage with his New CD.

Welcome back, EC!

Eric, I'm not sure how can I tell you my impression!!!
What an amazing gift for us! Great song......
I'm impressed calmly then it became stronger and deeper day by day.

I sometimes posted that EC's songs are healing, easeing our heart from the bottom of our heart.
And EC's songs show us his insite, sorrow.....pain, joy, happiness, lonliness, exitement, etc and love
just like our own insite, feeling.

EC said "When you can capture, in music and lyrics, something everyone has felt at some point in their life."

As for me, 2011 was the worst year of my whole life
with my medical issue and terrible Tsunami, nuclear accidents in Japan.

Sometimes feel I can't stand anymore and slept down to deep blak hall......
If the one hear this song at such a terrible point, we can sure feel ease our mind,

be filled with something calm, warm, tender, reliefe, peace.......

I thought most of EC's songs are written by very parsonal feelings.
This song is rather defferent. He encourages us, calm but strong.
It will shows his maturity as 64 old.
I wanted to show IT, I didn't want just like teen-age boy's love song,
I asked him to write what he can write on his age.
It's a brand new EC!
Coongratulations and Thank you Eric!

We have a pair of stations locally that focus on '80's music and I have shared the link (http://ultimateclassicrock.com/eric-carmen-new-song/) on both of their Facebook pages. Hopefully all of us have or will do the same. Any help we can give in getting this recording airplay can only help improve the chances that Eric will be inspired to, perhaps, record a full album of new memories! :D

Eric:

Thank you for Brand New Year, and the detailed explanation of how it was conceived.  You still have the magic, and I know I speak for all of your fans that we hope you continue to compose and perform in the future.

I hope you had a great Christmas, and wish you the very best for 2014.

I saw LC's Post.

Well, for New Year's Eve, there is a possible chance, in Vienna. Or watch on T.V.. Or, get tickets there.

This is part symphony orchestra show, and who knows who else will perform.

It will be on channel 50 KOCE, which is a PBS affiliate. At 8:00 PM. PST.

Other start times might be a different  hour, or the same time at eight.

In their own words, not mine, they said the show will feature,

[ but not limited to ] the music of Johan Strauss and family,

with an emphasis this year on the work of Joseph Strauss.

The conductor is Daniel Barrenboim, and Julie Andrew Hosts.

Wel, l.... if anyone knows someone at the show, here's a chance,

possibly to perform before a worldwide crowd, they said.

Eric- Something really special happens when you sing the word "believe" just before the chorus. Did you modulate (change the key) in the middle of that word? The mood seemed to change within that single word.

Rolling Stone's David Wild weighs in with a great syndicated article he just wrote for the Huffington Post:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/david-wild/brand-new-year-a-new-play_b_4520441.html

It's just one of thousands of online pickups of news that Eric has a brand new song! Just Google "Eric Carmen" and "Brand New Year" to see how many hits you get! Wow!!!
