In Hindsight: Raspberries' Fresh (1972)

Recommended Posts

I Reach For the Light (as well as Penny Lane) had a piccolo trumpet in it, not a fluegelhorn. I apologize for nit-picking.

I agree with Kirk's list except I would flip 3 and 4, 7 and 8, and 9 and 10.

"If You Change Your Mind" is a solid A+. In fact, I'd give it an A+++. One of Eric's best vocals! And the chord progression is astonishing!

Agreed. I gave it an A+ but would fully support two extra plusses. It's pretty much in a dead heat, for me, with "Let's Pretend," which is also one of Eric's best vocals. He was on fire on that album—a vocal peak? I also thought Wally was at his "spectacularly subtle" best.

Decades later, "IYCYM" had lost very little of its luster. In my limited live Raspberries experience, it was a true highlight of the show.
