  1. So I'm an unhappy kid raised(?) in a quasi-religiousJewish Orthodox household... It's a little like being Amish.. Anyhoo..my mom was always excited learning that...Kirk Douglas..Jewish..Steve Lawrence/Eydie Gorme/..Jack Benny..Milton Berle...Danny Kaye..Jerry Lewis...Jewish.. So I kinda inherited that quirk...gettin' excited to learn David Lee Roth etc. was a paisan..er..Lantzman.. SOOO..Rock and Roll radio was my salvation from this claustrophobic religious prison.. My first love...The Four Seasons...I had 16 of their 45's.. Somewhere down the line..I noticed a Jewish name co-writing such hits as "Dawn" "Let's Hang On"..."Opus 17"...""Workin' My Way Back To You"..etc. Many years later when I spent a brief time in sales..I was referred to sell to Sandy Linzer... He was pleasant enough... One cool ting he shared with me..was that after his success with the classically inspired "Lover's Concerto" by the Toys...he mined that idea for the "Seasons' "Opus 17"..I thought it was cool to learn that tidbit.. Anyhoo..Again...Many years later I learn of the Raspberries experience with him..AND see him credited..(perhaps only 'cause he HAD to be) on your.."The Essential" and now today seeing his name on the closing credits of the GREAT "Jersey Boys" movie...he was on my mind... Eric...Do I remember you recounting that he tried to unpleasantly turn you guys into The Four Seasonal Raspberries? Sorry if it awakens unpleasant memories..but I was curious to hear your "take" on this guy who had considerable success...but mishandled you guys.. Thanks.
  2. Eric do you have a favourite Soul / R&B artist?
  3. Brian Wilson

Eric, Do you know if Brian Wilson has heard "Brand New Year"? I think it would knock his socks off. Since you recorded the song with his band, it doesn't seem like much of a stretch to get it into Brian's hands...I'd love to know what he thinks of your new song!
  4. Essential

OMG!!!!!! Am I loving the essential cd. You know (dearest eric) my birthday is this Friday, and seeing how I wasn't a teenager in the 60"s. Is there anyway I could PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASE,PLEASEEEEEE!!!!!! have an autographed picture signed especially to me. I listen to the live on sunset strip, an essentials every night when I go to bed. If I had been a teenager in the 60"s, I would have come to see you perform. You was a hot thing then, but omg you turned into THE HOTTEST MAN I believe I have ever seen, and I'm not just saying it. If I had seen you in the 60"s, I would have tried my best to get to you. It has been said that I am a beauty. So anyway I would really, really love to have a personalized autograph. If you can please make it out to: Donna. Oh, I will be 51.
  5. Questions For Eric...

Eric, a few questions if you have the time or find them interesting enough to answer... If Wally were to quit Raspberries, after Scott and Mike came aboard, and the band was to continue, who would you have replaced him with...? If Jimmy Ienner hadn't made the "Hungry Eyes" phone call to you, where would your career have headed? Artistically speaking, what song of yours would you like placed in the hands of what artist?... I deejay private affairs...If I play a song of yours at a party, are you supposed to be compensated?...And who would keep track of that and how would they know?... Name your five least favorite Eric Carmen songs and, in your opinion, where did they go wrong? Anticipatory thanx, Lew...
  6. Teen angst is so much apart of rock and roll and SO well done by one Mr. Carmen.. Eric....I LOVED the Lesley Gore records too..but even as a kid...thought she had the perfect voice for those records and was as cute and likable as all hell... ..but I never thought she had one of the classic voices of rock... Again...I'm a big fan...AND it turns out she writes pretty damn good too..See "Out Here On My Own"...( Fame).. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Lesley's voice as well as your thoughts on a few of your other favorite Teen Angst Classic records and artists.. For example..Dion..."Runaround Sue"....Del Shannon..Little Town Flirt".."Hats Off To Larry"..?...and the like... Thanx.. Ira..The King Of Ongoing Teen Angst...
  7. Piano Songbook

Eric, it's my understanding that years ago you put together a songbook for piano, guitar, and voice. Why did this project never see the light of day? Is there any chance that you might revisit this project and update your songbook? I just purchased a Yamaha Baby Grand and would love to have an updated compilation songbook to play from that included songs from the Geffen and Winter Dreams albums. I did manage to find and purchase songbooks for your first three solo albums on eBay. I would still like to get some sheet music from Tonight You're Mine, Eric Carmen II, and Winter Dreams! Any chance of this happening?
  8. About New Songs

Eric, I always enjoy watch all your videos I found on YouTube: you, sure, have magnet inside of you. Very sad we don't see you enough.... You are very talented person and...... you owed us a lot of new songs.... Eric, what do you think about Leonard Cohen ..... Still sexy- very graceful aging.... We look forward to see you and hear your new best of the best song. Natalia
  9. Eric...I may have told you this story... So..I'm in college... I LOVE "Go All The Way"..and "I Wanna Be With You"... I'm in the car with Bob and Aaron... Aaron is a "Fabisinah"..Yiddish for someone who DOES wanna spoil the party... We hear "Let's Pretend" on WABC...the biggest radio station in the nation. (I'm not a virgin in general....BUT this is my first time hearing THIS amazing tune). I say to Bob and Aaron.. "This is a Top 10 record".. Aaron says.."I'll bet you 10 bucks it's not".. Trust me...he only said this 'cause he's...as previously stated...he's a world class Fabisinah..who wanted to piss me off.. (Guess it worked...100 years later..I'm still pissed off...) Anyway..Aaron hasn't done very well the last few years..a condition I ascribe to his teasing me about "Let's Pretend".. But seriously...I think..as we all do..that this is a monumental recording.. Would you be kind enough to share your thoughts as to why this song that has absolutely EVERYTHING was not an even BIGGER hit.. ( BTW...In a perfect world...Aaron would STILL not be doing well these days..AND "Let's Pretend" woulda been the #1record of the decade..IMHO.. ) Thanks-Ira.
  10. I Read Eric's...

...interview in The H. Post. Great stuff. One of the best music related interviews I've ever read....and I agree with what was said about today's music. His theory about why most music is not good is really interesting too. There is some great music out there now though. Really great. Though the great stuff doesn't seem to get known. This is one example. She (Vienna Tang) and this song, if written in the 60s or 70s, would still be in the top 1 percentile of that era. It's that good. She wrote it and brings it to fantastic life with only her voice and piano. I've played it here before, but it's worth another go. So great:
  11. Essential CD or Download?

Eric, To enjoy your new Essential CD to its fullest, do you recommend we pursue a CD copy or a download version? I spent the day yesterday in an NYC recording studio and asked the audio engineer the same question. He definitely recommended the CD version. Downloads, he said, can be extremely good, but will never have a totally accurate compression level (or whatever it's called). A CD, on the other hand, because it's as close to a first-generation as the consumer can get, will ALWAYS contain the audio-levels the artist intended. Your thoughts? Dave
  12. Always wondered..The seldom heard opening to Berlin's "White Christmas has him observing the palm trees and supposed L.A. bliss. ..and yet preferring a White Christmas. .Your great "Desperate Fools" conveys s similar message.. Was Berlin's tune any sort of inspiration?... ( though I do realize many havev found L.A. to beless than "Almost Paradise"...)
  13. I was just listening to this tune this morning, and was reminded about how incredible those background vocals/harmonies are, and that majestic bridge. The liner notes say that the vocals were arranged by Bruce Johnston, but I was wondering how much you had to do with the arrangement, Eric. Thanks.
  15. New CD

Eric will you be touring for the new cd when it comes out, oh i really wish you would, please please please make nc one of your stops
  16. Appearance?

Do you still perform at Cleveland house of blues? I have never seen you perform, and would love to see you. Please let me know. I live in a small town 30 min.outside of Charlotte NC.I have loved listening to your music for awhile now.
  17. From the Boats Blog, we could see the effort you put into getting the lyrics exactly right. It was interesting to see the song evolve into the Boats that we know (without the background vocals, of course!). I wonder if you've ever wanted to change a lyric after it was too late...after the song was recorded. If so, does it drive you crazy to hear the song without the change? Would you care to share the song and lyric with us...if such a song does exist. Thanks.
  18. Eric...

Eric, You worked along with many musicians...(Davey J, Burton, Beach Boys, Nigel etc...) I suspect some did their tracks without you there...did you get a say on who played, who's take ended up on the mix, etc? Did you also have the arrangement for their part already scored out? How did the process work? Also, with which session musician did it "click" best? Bahoo
  19. What Was It Like?

Hi eric. I wonder what it was like for you in the beginning. Back when you knew you wanted to be in a rock band, and you spent every moment working toward that end. What did that feel like? Did you have any enjoyment during that time, or was it all about working on the next project? I saw a video where all the guys were playing ball, laughing, and enjoying themselves. It struck me that you were not in any of them. I pictured you hold up in some dark hotel room, writing another song. At what point did you relax and start to enjoy yourself? Pj
  20. Eric's Best Books

Hi Eric. I got a Nook for Christmas, and my first book was "Marathon man" I now have these Barns and Noble gift cards that are burning a hole in my pocket! LOL I know that you are an avid reader, so I would love your input. So many books have been written about 911 and the JFK assassination, that I have no idea where to start. Please tell me your favorite books on the subjects. Thank you so much. Pj
  21. Early Eric Carmen

Hi Eric, I know you are crazy busy, but want to share how happy I am to know "Hold Out My Hand" "Get the Message" & "Sparrow" will be on the CDs coming out in the fall. Is the longer and certainly more classical version of "Sparrow" on the new CD as well - or somewhere? It would be an amazing pleasure to hear the song and music as you as you originally intended. Thanks baby xo
  22. Eric & Fans Abroad

Hello Eric. Were you aware of how many fans you had outside of the US when you were in concert /touring? Are you aware of how many fans you have now? You created an impact in me that has lasted a long time, and I consider you a genious in music. One day I will get to meet you and tell you in person. That is my goal. I live now in the US but I was born and raised in Guatemala. I remember my Dad telling me I was "crazy" listening to your music, if he could only have sat down and LISTENED he would have come up with the same opinion as me. You are a genious, either you believe it or not. And you impacted my life with your music and your art. Eres muy talentoso y guapisimo on top of everything! All best,
  23. Eric, If you were to pick the top 3 musical things you could have done (whether through offers you turned down, or chances that you could have taken, or recording-wise etc) that looking back now, you wish you would have done...what would they be? Bahoo
  24. Bahoo's new job! Selling Kawais and Rolands!!!
  25. Waiting

May I please ask Eric a question? I just recently heard your song "waiting" I have fallen head over heels in love with it! It's my understanding that you wrote this song at the tender age of 12! My gosh! What was I doing at 12? I'm sure it wasn't anything of consequence. What was your inspiration for this song, and how old were you when you recorded it? You sound very young on the recording. I believe this song would do well in today's market. One more question please. Tommy Mottola has written a book called "Hitmaker: The man and his music." Did you have any dealings with him, and do you feel the book is worth reading? Thank you for time. Pj
