  1. ohio airplay

I rememember listening to Sunflower by the Beach Boys while my college friends teased me while extolling the virtues of Emerson Lake and Palmer's ridiculous Brain Salad Surgery. I now have the satisfaction of knowing that the Raspberries, Eric Carmen, and Brian Wilson have stood the test of time and are being recognized for the soulful genuises they are. I remember hearing Baby Let's Pretend and thinking it was one of the greatest singles of all time-and you know what ?- it was. So rock on Eric! You're the only act to sell out B.B.'s this summer! (2 nights yet) Your "Time Has Come Today" and you deserve it! Thank you for the music!
  2. In a really interesting article in Entertainment Weekly about the slump in movie soundtrack sales (Aug. 12, issue- current) the writer says ( on page 15) " Movie soundtracks are a long way from their "Hungry Eyes" heyday"! I thought that was kind of cool. Also they list the top 10 soundtracks of all time and I couldn't help notice that #6 was "Dirty Dancing with 11 million sold (featuring Hungry Eyes) and # 10 was " Footloose" (featuring Almost Paradise) with 9 million sold. Not bad for a kid who was 16 and sick of school. Ira from Edison N.J.
  3. Mike Smith Benefit

Lew, I heard the concert on XM. Can you believe that the co-writer of so many great songs has nothing to show for it? Peter Noone at a concert in N.J. on Sat. nite announced his fans just raised thousands for a wheelchair-a wheelchair! I'm a teacher-and if this happened to me God forbid!- I'd be better taken care of. This guy is an Icon from a world changing cultural phenomenon-The Brtish Invasion.Boy did some of these artists from the 50's and 60's get screwed! No money-no health insurance Jeez!
  4. Being someone who always loved the Eric catalogue, but just recently going from knowing only the Raspberries singles of the 70's- to now owning every song available by the band that I'm aware of-to seeing them twice, and then meeting some of you at Bernie's I share the following not knowing if this is "old hat" to most of you. I have now heard Sinatra talking about a "new boy" Eric Carmen"-then singing All By Myself"- and then creditting the song again to Eric Carmen and the arrangement to the great arranger- Don Costa (whose label DCP I believe released the great Little Anthony comeback records). I also finally own "Caroline No" (with the repeat of the chorus which this song always cried out for).Man this is a great time to love Eric and the Raspberries!
  5. Happy Birthday Eric!

Eric,Thanks for the many years of adding so much pleasure to my life. Here's to many, many years of health, happinness and fulfillment.Ira-Edison, N.J.
  6. For what it's worth-and this is my world view-I have no basis for this-Bruce- like most people especially celebrities-like to be hip, and are influenced by trends-I'm sure there's the "It's cool now to mention the Raspberries" factor. But as was mentioned-this is the guy who did really nice stuff for Gary U.S. Bonds simply because Quarter To Three(which by the way is still better by Gary than by Clarence on the Ringo 3 cd set) and Gary's other stuff gave young Bruce the kind of chills this whole reunion is giving all of us. IRA-EDISON N.J.
  7. other covers

Wim Vriezen,I am going off on a tangent-but has anyone ever heard the third Left Banke song to get some radio play-"Desiree"?-very pretty. On the topic, I'd love to hear the 'Berries do Eric's Ringo bandmate Dave Edmund's "Girls Talk'. IRA-EDISON N.J.
  8. Raspberries Feel the New York Love

MY NEIGHBOR JIMMY J. WHO IS HIMSELF A FANATIC AND A CELEBRITY(HIS PASSION FOR THE COLTS LED TO HIS LETTER BEING READ LAST YEAR IN A DIRECT-TV COMMERCIAL BY JOHN GOODMAN-HIS HORSE IS EVEN NAMED PEYTON-)JUST INFORMED ME THAT SCOTT SHANNON THE A.M. D.J. ON WPLJ 95.5-OUR 80'S THROUGH TODAY- TOP 40 STATION(HE WAS INTRODUCED AS BEING IN THE CROWD ON SATURDAY NIGHT) RAVED ABOUT THE RASPBERRIES ON THIS MORNING'S(MONDAY) SHOW AND KIDDED THAT HE HAD TROUBLE LINING UP A COMPANION FROM THE STATION TO GO WITH HIM(MOST SAID THEY WERE 3 YEARS OLD IN THE70'S). SHANNON IS A REAL BIG DEAL, HE RESTARTED TOP 40 RADIO IN N.Y.A NUMBER OF YEARS BACK WITH Z-100. ALL IN ALL I THOUGHT YOU'D ALL LIKE TO KNOW THAT A GUY WHO CAN'T EVEN PLAY THE RASPBERRIES ON HIS SHOW WENT ON TO TALK ABOUT WHAT A GREAT BAND THEY ARE.
  9. Weekend at Bernie's

Thank you Bernie for a lovely afternoon. It was so nice to meet such warm, welcoming people from all over the country and even Japan.Even my wife Lorie who is a casual fan caught a mild case of our fever.I don't know if this is the place- but since British 60's music is a definite Raspberry influence-the Tribute For Mike Smith-lead singer and keyboardist of the DC5 is being simulcast from B.B.'s and can be taped if you or a friend have XM RADIO. It features the Zombies, the Peter and Gordon Reunion (also a 30 plus year deal)and Denny Laine of the "Go Now" Moody Blues and later of Wings.Again ,thank you all.For a 54 year old Rasberry fan who remembers his sense of loss when Baby Let's Pretend was played for only a few weeks on New York Top 40 radio(unbelievable!) Saturday's concert(We couldn't go Sunday)and yesterday's gathering were "Almost Paradise". Cleveland and Sayerville Rock(s)!
  10. When I read these postings I feel "unworthy" in the Wayne's World sense of being a more casual fan than many of you.Until recently,I only knew the Big 5 Raspberry hits. I always loved Eric's songs, but with the exception of Boats Against The Current- the first album I ever owned was The Definitive Collection.I fell in love with this record and especially The Way We Used To Be.Enter Bernie's Website and his wonderful book and I fly to Chicago meet my friend from L.A. and we lived a Rock and Roll Fantasy at The House Of Blues.Well I now own many Raspberries songs.I check the web all the time for any Raspberries tidbit and wait breathlessly for 7/23 at B.B. Kings.Even today I came here to read about Denver and you guys came through. It's a pleasure to be a junior member of this wonderful club.Hope to meet some of you in Rock and Roll Heaven at B.B. King's.

  12. ASK ERIC

thanks for your time darlene.i mentioned to you that i was actually a big eric fan- and while i certanly knew the legend, and the rock press's view of the raspberries, i really only knew the big 5 or 6 raspberries songs. that concert was the only one i have ever attended in which i loved and remembered each song that i was hearing for the first time long after the concert was over.now iown most of the music and it's almost paradise!please write soon.
  13. ASK ERIC
