  2. http://www.chicagotribune.com/entertainment/music/chi-0510-old-rockersmay10,0,1746745.story Here is an interesting article from today's Chicago Tribune about the main players out there on the rock scene are basically 60 somethings. Actually Bruce Springsteen is one of the younger ones at 59! So the question is why do these more mature rockers get the best money making tours and successful reviews? It has to be in at least some cases the quality of what is there.....

  5. R.I.P Jack Kemp....

He also stated recently on the election of "Barack Obama"...that "this is proof that we live in a great country". a very introspective and smart man.
  6. R.I.P Jack Kemp....

Jack Kemp was a really nice and respectable public servant. A great quarterback back in the old AFL days with Buffalo Bills. I did not support his trickle down fiscal poliices...But I will never forget the interview that Sean Hannity had with him during the last election. Sean was just ripping on obama when he had Jack on the phone. Jack finally spoke up after all the bad mouthing by Sean of Obama and said...."He really is a self made man". That just shut up Sean really fast. He really did not know how to respond and the interview was over! Great job Jack!!!! RIP

  9. Obama's Early Success

Great article in the current Newsweek by Fareed Zakaria. It is called "Secret of His Success". Here is an piece of it: Conservative commentators have made much of a recent Pew survey showing that public reaction to Obama has been more polarized than to any previous president: Democrats really like him, and Republicans really dislike him. But the poll's most striking statistic was how few Americans now self-identify as Republicans. For the past year it has hovered around 24 percent, the lowest in three decades. It's not so much that the Republican base has shrunk, as Emory University political scientist Alan Abramowitz points out in a recent essay: the Democratic base has expanded. When Bill Clinton was elected in 1992, the Democratic base was 30 percent of the electorate; swing voters were 43 percent and Republicans 27 percent. Last year Democrats made up 41 percent; swing voters dropped to 32 percent and Republicans stayed put at 27 percent. Because party loyalties tend not to shift quickly, an 11-point rise for the Democrats is astonishing. Abramowitz argues that since these changes are largely rooted in demography—particularly the growing nonwhite population—they are likely to persist for a while. It's not only that Obama has inherited a more liberal country. How true this is. Not that many months ago we had Rush Limbaugh bragging about being able to make visits to the Oval Office. That is now history thankfully. You also have a very good sign in that Sen. Arlen Specter is now a Democrat and the Dems are getting close to the Filbuster proof Senate. The word "prgressive" is no longer taken the way it was in the past with certain members of the media constantly trying to trash anyone who dare followed a progressive agenda. The GOP has basically become a party of very littel identity which is sad. Fewer and fewer citizens identify with what the party has turned itself over to recently which are the Fundamentals and Christian Right. I am a practicing Christian and have been all my life but I do not agree with most of the twisted beliefs of these individuals. Thankfully things have changed and we have a President that can read those changes and knows how to effectively work his way through it for the betterement of all citizens.

  24. The Sterile Cuckoo

Back in 1965 there was a book written by John Nichols called "The Sterile Cuckoo". It was about 2 college freshmen one male and one female who met on a bus on their way to college in upstate New York. They attended different schools about 80 miles apart and they got on the bus in Oklahoma. Anyway, the girl was very eccentric and outgoing and the guy was very withdrawn. They end up in a relationship and he is changed by coming out of his shell. But the relationship is ill fated from the start and this is the story of it. It also tells what it is like as a coming of age story set in the late sixties which I went through. Various reviews state that it captured the times of dating, alcohol, relationships, coming of age, etc. very well. The movie came out in 1969 and starred Liza Minelli in one of her first movie roles as the female lead. I was told by someone back in that time period that it was a good movie and of course VCR's did not exist then and I never got a chance to see it or read the book. I also understand it has never been issued on DVD. 1) Does anyone remember this movie or book? 2) If so, what were your recollections of it? 3) Does anyone know where one can get a copy of movie or book? Sorry for this diversion but I needed something as I am totally absorbed in my taxes and need a break.
