  1. Magic - Tony Burrows - Carmen?

Magic was a Cleveland bar band that became Eric's backup for the first album. Their lead singer was Danny Hrdlicka.
  2. What's Next??

Well, now having had almost 2 years to consider it, I would lend my opinion that the original 4 guys made the sound. Almost 40 years later, the sound still works. Scott and Mike contributed to the "sucess" of the band. However, everyone needs to rewind to 1971 and hear these four semi"original" guys (John was in the original band) playing songs that took you back only 5-7 years but seemed like a lifetime. Only when I heard the reunion shows and The Choir show did it confirm to me it was the basic core that created a sound emulated by others to come, Petty, Springsteen, Cheap Trick, hell even ELO. Four humble kids from Ohio (some transplanted ) made it happen. I was proud to have been there and more proud now to pass on the music and the history to my children and a new generation of audiophiles.
  3. 1998 almost Raspberries show

refreshed was good for what is was....The Raspberries... even if EC and JB were not there...it stands for where 3 guys were at one point in time....trying to see if they still had it....and they did.
  4. Peculiar Eric Commentary

Especially since both BCR's and Springsteen came after Raspberries.
  5. Eric: If You Had One Question To Ask US...

Eric, The first time I heard the band was at a high school dance in Cleveland. I just thought that you, Wally, John, and Jim had the best sound out there. The music captured all my interests, all my emotions, whether it was your original material or your covers of the Beatles, Left Banke, Badfinger (No Matter What today is still one of my all-time favorites because of the many great times I had hearing it), Who. I am sure you can appreciate my dancing with the young ladies back then listening to that music. For the first generation of post-greaser hippies, you guys were our Temptations/Four Tops. As I graduated from high school and the band started their recording career, the new music which embodied everthing from Beach Boys/Beatles to Jay and the Americans/Buckinghams to Steve Mariot/Small Faces/Faces, the Berries music was the signature of my approaching adulthood whilst still keeping the innocence of my youth. I imagine I will still be listening to GATW, Ecstacy, Play On, IWBWY, along with HTGOAH and Should I Wait in my 80's the Good Lord willing! Music For My Lifetime!

  7. Jim Girard

Jim was the best! He will be missed. Cleveland and rock'n'roll has lost a true gentleman and an avid fan. REST IN PEACE.
  8. Sixties Pop

THe last two Grass Roots songs were 70's. Just a technicality
  9. 'Devil' & 'Cindy'

Is anyone willing to share their copoes of these unreleased songs(except NSD)
  10. Joe Walsh

Eric, Can you elaborate on the story/rumor of Joe Walsh wanting to play in Raspberries? I know Mr. Walsh always appreciated harmonies and melody, so it would have OK for him, and he knew/played with Jim. Was there ever any discussion, and do you think it would have been a good, if not interesting idea.
  11. Badfinger Show 3/18

Unfortunately, it is/was billed as Badfinger,
  12. Raspberries Live Album

From "The Plain Dealer" 2-12-06 article on ABM. "He (Carmen)is readying a live album by the band, recorded last year at the House of Blues in Los Angeles". Hmmm.
  13. Where is the Choir review?

They came on around 10pm. The ES-Shades were a good band. The Alarm Clocks rocked. Wally backed Jessie on one song they did as the Bryson Group in the tavern after the Choir show. And no, I do not believe Jessie is scheduled for tonight, but there should be some good local acts playing in the bar after the show.
  14. Where is the Choir review?

  16. survey says!

The band did not get any special airplay then. AM radio was on the outs and Cleveland FM was progressive. no room for pop music. WGCL and WIXY were the only two teenage stations and WIXY changed formats in early 1973. I do not recall the band playing it that much either before the album. It was just a case of bad timing in Cleveland. The second album got much better airplay, though.
  17. Choir Venue Information Please

It has only been around since 2000. It holds appox 500-600 in the ballroom. Some evenings there are tables, other nights you stand. The venue also has a seperate bar where bands play. After the Choir concert on Friday, Wally's son Jessie's band will be playing in the bar ( free to all concert goers). The building also conatins a music store with hard to find "old" music as well as some "alternative" music. The venue is in the heart of the East Side of Cleveland with easy access off Routes 90/2.
  18. survey says!

Also DArlene is correct in that the two albums were released in the same year. She even has the months correct. See Darlene you are still young as ever.
  19. survey says!

ira, i meant LCWIABD and a CCR got heavy airplay against GATW not that LCW was a CCR song.
  20. survey says!

i too remember being disappointed about it being number 72. the record did not become hot untilthe summer of 72. it actually broke in Chicago before it broke in Cleveland. That summer was a heavy play of "Long Cool Woman in a Black Dress", a CCR song, and "Go All The Way". The WIXY 1260 was determined by local record sales, and requests (which drove the playlist). The TOP 100 was played on New Years Eve as a countdown to midnight, so I am sure it had an early cutoff. I however agree it should have been higher.
  21. 2nd CHOIR SHOW ADDED!!!

It's COld Outside, When You Were WIth Me, and I Rather You Leave Me.
  22. Plain Dealer ABMS showcase

It's a sketch of him with some of the cover artists, i.e. Tom Jones, Hank Williams Jr , Sheryl Crow and Il Divo
  23. Where were you...42 years ago tonight??

I was watching Ed Sullivan w/ my father, laughing at my older sister screaming and crying at the TV. Of course she liked Paul. Little did I know that a year later the boys would be my favorite and contribute to a change in my musical tastes including bopping around town 6 years later following bands like Raspberries, Charade, Circus, Target, etc.
  24. Raspberries video

It's "Rock Concert". The Imus gig they "performed" on set.
