  1. The Top Canadian Albums

My all time favorite albums aren't in the top 10? What is this world coming to?? Any sign of Burton Cummings first solo album (the one with Stand Tall on it - I don't know if it had a name)? How about anything from Paul Janz ("Renagade Romantic" or "Trust" really deserve to be mentioned)? Trooper? The album Hot Shots (with Raise a Little Hell on it) is a Canadian Classic! Rick Mercer uses Trooper songs all the time on his shows. Now that I start thinking about it, there really are quite a few great Canadian albums. I don't think I'd be able to pare down the list to only 100.
  2. Footloose II

Does this mean we'll be playing "6 degrees of Efron" in a few years? I can't imagine Footloose without the themesong and Almost Paradise. It just wouldn't be the same.... of course, it's never going to be the same anyway. Sounds like I'm getting old, huh?
  3. Anyone actually dressing up for Halloween this year? I'm always stumped for a creative costume - seems women over the age of 30 usually go for the "witch" costume. Not at all original. Last year I saw a kid in an iPod costume - with "i want candy' written on it. It was so cute. Anyway, thought I'd ask the sarcastic and brilliant group that you all are if you can think of anything you can do with a bald head? I thought of painting my head/face orange and going as a pumpkin - but that's just not very impressive. Any ideas? I've got the bald head - might as well make the most out of it!
  4. CARTMILL-OUR HERO

That's hilarious! Hang on... I thought Tony was planning on voting for McCain? That would mean he won by 2 votes! I'm just waiting for the election to be over so we can go back to our regular scheduled programming.
  5. Bad News....

Tony - What do you mean look at my mutual funds? I invested in beer! Here are a few investment facts: If you had purchased $1,000 shares of Delta Airlines one year ago, you would have $49.00 today. If you had purchased $1,000 shares of AIG one year ago, you will have $33.00 today. If you had purchased $1,000 shares of Lehman Brothers one year ago, you would have $0.00 today. But, if you had purchased $1,000 worth of beer one year ago, drank all the beer, then turned in the aluminum cans for the recycling refund, you would have received $214.00. One can conclude from the above that almost all investments are going bad right now, so you might as well just drink beer and recycle. This investment strategy is called the 401 Keg.
  6. Just Heard the News

I'm sorry to all if I opened fresh wounds. When Eric was arrested the last time, I didn't make any comments at all - instead deciding that he had been through enough, and needed to be left alone. That being said, Eric often comments on this board about his kids, and has posted photos. I know what it's like to have a father who drinks, and as an adult, I thought maybe Eric needs to be reminded that he's got a hell of a lot in his life. I'm not trying to make Eric feel bad in any way. I'm sure he's been embarrassed enough by having the story and photos in all the local Cleveland papers. We all love Eric here - I've been on the board since 2002 - so it's not like I'm a newbie here. If Eric has been embarrassed to write anything on this board, that's his decision. He's a big boy. You would think at a low period in his life, he'd want to be with people who love and care about you. If he's not posting here, then it's a sign he doesn't really consider us 'family' at all. If anyone is going to be understanding and forgiving, it's going to be us. Hell, JFK died? King Tut and Prime Minister Trudeau too? Looks like I've missed a lot the last few months! Sorry, I've been too ill to spend time on the computer, and too bored with American politics to turn on the news. I'm just waiting for my main man McCain to win, so life can get back to normal. (and the flames start now....)
  7. Bad News....

Hey LLI'm not sure which calculator you were using. Based on the one I found at http://www.nrps.com/educate/alc_calc.asp A 140 pound man would have to drink 9 drinks in one hour to get a level up near what Eric had. As I don't see Eric anywhere near 140 pounds (at least not for a few years!) he had to have drunk more than that. As well, the blood test wasn't taken at the scene - it was taken later at jail - so his level at the actual time of the accident would have been even higher.
  8. Just Heard the News

Hey all... it's been awhile since I logged in. So, imagine my surprise to log in and see the DUI news from back in September! I know it's old news, but, as usual, I feel like tossing in my 2 cents worth (which, being from Canada, isn't worth much!) I grew up with an alcoholic father. He died when I was 15 - from complications due to his drinking. Thank God he only drank at home - never did any damage to anyone but himself (and our family). I was really happy to hear that Eric didn't injure himself or anyone else. That would have been horrible. My dad missed a lot of my brother's and my life - graduation, marriage, first grandchild.... and we've missed him not being there as well. It's hard not to have a father to walk you down the aisle at your wedding. Eric... you've got two young children. Not only do you need to set a good example for them, but you need to be there for them as they get older. I wish someone would have told my dad that years ago - if they had, I might still have a dad today. So, that's it. No preaching. No saying what I think the penalty should be, or speculating on what's going on in Eric's life. It's not my business anyway. I can be a rabid fan, and still (try) to respect his personal life. I think I'm ok, unless Tony and I end up together in Gates Mills - then all bets are off!
  9. My God... Has It Been 20 Years?

Sounds like you and I are about the same age HT! That summer was the year I first heard of Eric as well - so I hit the used record stores (still vinyl in those days) and picked up all the old EC albums. Now, I have a kickin' EC collection that I don't have the equipment to play. Fortunately, I've replaced it all on CD.
  10. NGFILA Is On My Spring Concert

Darlene - how fantastic that you have the students doing Eric's music! Indoctrinate them young - that's what I always say. Another generation of EC fans is great. Just don't start them with GATW - my 6 year old is just getting to the age where he's asking questions about "Where are they going anyway???"
  11. Hey ya'all... it's been awhile since I've been around. But, I always know when I need info, you guys are the ones to come to.... Here's my question. I'm trying to complete my Paul Janz album collection. I have all but one - a demo he did called "Songwriter" back in 1989. I contacted Paul's manager at the time - Michael Godin - and he said "The Songwriter album was never intended for commercial release. It was prepared by the music publisher, Irving Music of Canada, to be used for promotional purposes to get other recording artists to sing Paul's songs. It would have been sent to A&R departments at various record labels, as well as to record producers and artist managers." Now, here's where the question comes in for everyone here. How to I find someone now in an A&R department who would still have a dusty old version of this lying around???? As you can probably tell, I can get pretty obsessed when it comes to my music. Anyone able to help?????
  12. The high cost of Eric's Geffen CD...

I got all my EC albums at bargin basement prices. I think the most I ever paid for one was $2. That was a few years ago, and they were on vinyl - so I guess you can't compare to today. An item is only worth what people are willing to pay for it.Obviously people are willing to pay a high price to have this album. You guys never mentioned my favorite songs from the album - "American As Apple Pie" and "Spotlight". I love the rocking ones.
  13. Sick People

In all my years of working, I've only had 1 employer who offered sick day benefits. That's the reason people come to work ill - they need the pay. With kids, parents send them to school sick, because keeping your kids home from school means having to stay home from work yourself, or finding alternate care arrangements. I think I'm the only parent who keeps my kid home when he's ill. My mom is a teacher, and there have been some very sick kids sent to school, because the parents had to work...
  14. How Did The 80's Sound Affect Your Music?

Spotlight - one very under-rated song, IMHO - sounds amazing, and could easily be 'fixed' to get rid of the '80s feel. In many ways it has the potential to be a classic rock/pop song - along the lines of 'Glory Days' or 'Born to Run' by Bruce. Anyone interested in listing the songs they think could be improved (or brought up to date) and re-released today? Take the '80s sax solos out of several songs ("Make me lose control" comes to mind), and you could have some classic 'timeless' music.
  15. Eric Carmen , Burton Cummings - Parallels

I mentioned it in another thread, but.... Burton is planning on releasing a NEW SOLO album in early 2008. The band is already rehearsing, and the recording will be in January - so it looks like it's a 'go'. Now let's all hope that Eric takes the hint and does the same thing!
